After a hiatus on Spark, I decided to fully come back on Spark because it works! It has worked for me when I first joined in 2008, and it will work again. This website has it all: the tools, the resources, the teams and their challenges, and the amazing support!

I am not going to restart or start over in 2013; I am not a tape: I cannot rewind or forward my life. I am going to continue my journey from where I am now. After setting some achievable goals for this upcoming year, I’ll do my very best to be proud of me.

A few facts:
In 2011, I quit smoking. I was given a generic drug that has jeopardized my health and upset my thyroid levels. From the combination of both, my weight has never been so high in my entire life. Exercising is now very challenging; I can easily faint due to a sudden low blood pressure.

Few things about me:
*I used to be thin and very athletic. My struggle with my weight is quite "new" to me and is due to a hormonal disorder (since 2007).
*I am not an emotional eater. I love cakes and chocolate, simply because it tastes good!
*I am very competitive with myself, and I am always up for a challenge. Feel free to challenge me or to ask me to join a team-challenge.
*My friends are important to me that’s also why I am on Spark—I have met many amazing persons here, and I am honored to be able to call them "friends."
*I am in my forties. Feminist, vegetarian, green activist, evironmentalist, anti-specism, atheist, pacifist (uniforms don't turn me on, they make me want to puke on their rangers boots), anti-war, nonconformist, against all animal experiments (even in the name of "science"), not married (but live with my partner of 9 years), childfree, and much more. --- I mention it here one for good, so you know me a bit better, but I'll never ever ever bother you with my convictions on your page or in teams not related to the subject. I don't have any hidden agenda, or don't recruit. My only mission here is being healthy while having fun. I expect the same from you. ;)
*I am French and have lived on different continents and in several countries (can't wait to discover a new one!)
*I love, in no particular order, gardening, golf, skiing, cooking, cook books, country dance, Eddie Izzard, TV series, movies, cats, reading, new technologies, talking, games, Wii, spa, traveling, meeting new persons. I am a shoe-addict (I could open a store with all my shoes!), and a hardcore fan of the Brazilian brand, Melissa Plastic Dreams. I am also a devoted Lush customer (a British fresh handmade cosmetics) since their beginnings.

Qualities: optimistic, open-minded, easy-going, laugh a lot, cheerful character, supportive, trustful,... When I set my mind to something, I am success-oriented and stubborn.

Shortcomings: impatient, can sometimes have an "all or nothing" attitude, very busy with life and cannot always have the time to answer others, or to take care of my needs. Can sometimes sound blunt.

My goals for 2013:
• Tracking my meals, and everything that goes in my mouth.
• Cardio: at least 10 min every day. Must make it up the next day if not done.
• Creating a Calorie Differential of -500 per day
• Using FitBit to track my steps and activity
• Following BeFit in 90 Workout System on Youtube
• Being a size 42 (US 8/10) by June 2013

Disclaimer: I understand that we all have our little superstitions or imaginary friends, but I’d really appreciate that you do not quote the bible or any other myths on my page. And, should you feel the urge of praying for me, feel free to do ten jumping jacks instead.
Blame my age, experience, or hypothyroidism, but my tolerance for this nonsense is now close to, if not, zero. I might not be as polite as I used to be if you cross me on that subject.

I'm with you re: the "rat race culture," but this behavior is something different, something much more subtle and insidious. Your support and solidarity genuinely mean a lot to me, Valerie.

Bowing in gratitude,
Valerie Mahalakshmi

Congratulations on being the Bright Star of the Day. I tried to send you a team Goodie but it wouldn't recognize your page address. Very weird. So, instead:

HELLO! I have been horrible about getting back onto Spark regularly. I have been doing well enough and have a new plan and motivation in front of me, so hopefully things will get better. I have one of my profiles tomorrow morning, so I will blog that and then try to be better about logging my nutrition and workouts.

I see you were ill? Food poisoning? See what happens when you are a vegetarian! :) I am sorry you had to suffer through that, but I am glad to see that you are well again!

My husband has agreed to run a Spartan Race with me in July, so I am totally psyched and very nervous about that. That is my motivation. I need to get a bit more serious and in a bit better shape! lol

I hope your day is going well and that you're able to get up and move!
