Mike is getting healthy!

I'm a 37-year old husband, father and cube-dweller using SparkPeople (and our new Wii Fit) to get into better shape. While I'm a regular runner and have recently started cycling as well, I need to shed quite a few pounds (53 as of 12/23/08) and get more healthy eating and non-cardio exercise habits.

My Goals:
1. Eat healthy ("Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.")
2. Spend more time with my family.
3. Stretch and do yoga every day to improve my flexibility and posture.

My Program:
- Running 2-4 times a week.
- Cycling 1-2 times a week (working on this since I just got an indoor trainer!).
- Swimming twice a month.
- Using SP to track my eating.
- Daily stretching and yoga.

Thanks for the recommendation! This year all I have on the planner is Long Beach Marathon in October. I am (hopefully) gunning for 2 marathons in 2010. At least one of which I want to do out of state. I am toying with Vegas in December or Seattle in November but everything's up in the air for now.

Do you live in Oregon? I saw the Eugene and Portland Marathon listed. Last october was my first Portland Marathon (my dad did it a few times back in the day). I fell in love with it! So beautiful. Perfect running weather (cool and drizzly - no overheating here!). I hope to be back in a bit for another.

(I might add that I lived in Washington til I was 10 - then in Hawaii until college - then napa valley area for college. Now I've moved into the armpit of the US - (smoggy So. Cal) Oregon was PARADISE!

WalMart has ones now that you use when you are jogging and running. They are about $8.00.

To Sparkpeople. I am happy to see that you have found some teams that interest you. Take your time and hunt around and get comfortable with the site.. it's all here.. a wealth of information to help you lose weight, feel great and change your lifestyle for the better. Try to spend some time looking at other Sparkpages and be sure to leave them a comment.. you will find many tips and friends in the process. Learn to use the nutrition log.. it will make such a difference in your success here.
