Gluten Free and Healthy

On May 27, 2010 I found out that I have Celiac Disease, which means I am gluten intolerant. I want to eat healthier and maintain a good weight for myself and now I have to stay away from wheat, rye and barley (and more, I'm still learning).

Being a Celiac has changed my outlook on food. I have noticed that I am reading labels more and purchasing foods now that are necessary for me to feel good. In the beginning I, like so many others, went out and purchased a bunch of unnecessary ...

In the beginning I, like so many others, went out and purchased a bunch of unnecessary food. Now, the longer I am a Celiac, the more info I am reading about bakeries and good brands vs. frozen store bought brands.

I'm not losing weight but I'm maintaining. My nutritionist says that I'm eating well but suggested I eat a few more grains to get me through the afternoons. Sometimes I feel hungry and want to munch, sometimes I'm not hungry and still want to munch. Withdrawls? Possibly...

In Oct 2010 I had my two children tested since CD is hereditary. The youngest is negative, the oldest came back positive. He took the news well and thankfully he has me to help. I have also found out that there is a link between ADHD and CD. CD can have both physical and neorological symptoms. My son was diagnosed with ADHD 10 years ago but now I'm wondering the symptoms were the CD talking. Will be investigating...

Anyway, that's me... :)

My Goals:
My goal in life is to be healthy, happy and gluten free so I can live my life the way I want. I want to be a good role model for my children and be healthy - for me.

My Program:
To keep track of my G/F meals and get some sort of exercise every day (which is tough sometimes). I stay motivated by thinking about how great I feel after my workout and I also think of my children and my wonderful husband.

I also stay motivated by reading other SP articles. I'm so happy by their success, congrats everyone.

Personal Information:
I live in Reno, NV and love all the Nevada has to offer. There is so much to do with all 4 seasons.

I am a mom of 4 kids (2 mine, 2 his), a spoiled puppy, and a spoiled cat that needs to go on a diet.

Other Information:
Exercise: 1600 calories.

No Exercise: 1500 calories

Maintain: 1800 calories

Knowing and living by these numbers will help me reach my goal weight and help me feel great.

Being GF actually gave me the will power I never had before over baked goods!

Watch out for anything that is a 'sauce'. a lot of sauces have flour in them.

Also look at www. gingerlemongirl.com she has something called her master mix that is GREAT. It is like bisquik. We have waffles all the time w/ this. Warning though, she has a ton of sweets on her website! She does have a great bread, it's like sweet Hiawiian loaf, it's called maple oat something or other.

Thanks for those kind words!! I cannot be to hard on myself I've had 2 kids real close together. I got up to 221 with my last child and he's 8 months old. My oldest is 2.5 I just have to keep reminding myself of that. Some days it's works. But thanks again. You keep up the good work too:)
