Here's me. I weigh less in this photo than I do now, but I like the happiness in my eyes here! This

My newborn niece in her Halloween costume that her loving auntie (me) made for her.

My goal image that I visualize. This is from the cover of the new Colette patterns book.

I have 4 pics in my gallery

DIY-ing into a healthy weight

I guess I've just chosen a big weight loss goal: 50 pounds within a year. Weird to see that as my goal! I love to sew and make things. If you do, too, please say "hi." I have some challenges: migraines, knee problems, food allergies. I have a lot of strengths, too: I'm smart, I'm disciplined, I like exercise, I am a great cook, and I have a loving, supportive husband.

My Goals:
I think it's time I tweak my goals, they weren't motivating enough. Yes, I do want a healthy lifestyle. But I think I need a carrot to dangle in front of myself and along the way I will follow the healthy lifestyle. Right now, I'm spinning my wheels and I want some traction and movement instead.
So...goals are:
5 pound loss - plan for 4/1 MET 3/27
10 pound weight loss - plan for 5/1
10% weight loss - plan for 7/1
weigh under 200 lbs. - plan for 8/15
2nd 10% weight loss - plan for 9/1
Waistline under 35" - plan for 9/1
3rd 10% weight loss - plan for 11/1
4th 10% weight loss - plan for 1/1/13
Transition from "obese" to "overweight" - plan for 10/1
Transition from "overweight" to "healthy" - plan for 3/1/13

My Program:
I'm using Beck Diet Solution and calorie counting. For a long time, I used Weight Watchers and I'm trying to simplify that a bit by just counting calories.
For fitness, I tend to either use yoga podcasts, videos at home, or Wii Fit or dancing games for Wii. I may join the local Y or one of the pretty serious local yoga studios. I'm about to start a new job, so I'm thinking of gradually incorporating those yoga classes--because they're intense.

Personal Information:
I live in Wisconsin, I've lived all over Wisconsin and for a stint, also in Chicago. Here's a secret: to relax myself, I like to look at my patterns and think about making clothes.

Other Information:
The challenge for me will be to meet my weight loss goals without stressing my brain and giving me migraines. Reducing migraines and my subsequent risk of stroke is my major motivator. I'm an apple shape, so I want my waistline under 35".

Any suggestions for an easy pattern to try for a beginner? I just got a sewing machine in December but I'm too intimidated to use it!

Thank you so much for the spark goodie!
I just finished Simplicity 2451 D (http://www.simplicity.com/p-4470-misses-s
kirts.aspx), based on my measurements in January...and it's too big now. So now I have to take it in.

I'm doing a fit class at the local college, and the pattern I'm working on now is the dress from McCalls 5818 (out of print: http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m5818-prod
ucts-9411.php?page_id=519), and I'm really looking forward to altering the pattern in order to make a final (and super nicely fit) dress out of a light denim.

I looked up the McCalls pattern you're working on, and it looks pretty awesome. I can't wait to see the finished product. ^_^
