Molly McPuppy, age 2
Kirby Puppy, Age 15, now in puppy heaven
There are so many things that I wish I was better at.
One of them is, taking care of me.
Right now, as has been the case for the last year or two, things are tough. My husband is mentally ill. My adopted daughter also has issues (fetal alcohol), and my mother has alzheimer's. In order to pay off debts related to my husband's bipolar mental illness, I'm working two jobs, for a total of 66 hours a week.
Sometimes it seems like the only "me" time I have is when I "escape" for a quick fast food meal. That's my "me" time. I've got to change that. I'm hoping I can find some new "me" things.
And then there's my mom. Although she has declined, her favorite things in the world are, McDonalds, any frozen pizza, and any other fast food, especially tacos. I have not yet conquered the problem related to sitting in McDonalds, watching my mom eat a double cheeseburger and fries, telling me how good they are, and me sitting there eating a salad. I've done it, but I always end up feeling like I've missed out on something fun. I hope I can work on this problem too!
1) Track my foods.
2) Do 10 minutes of some kind of exercise every day.
3) Eat fewer than 1800 calories/day.
4) Ride my bike a little farther each day, until I can make it to town and back.
I am just trying to be a healthier person in general by making small changes.
In addition to our DD (adopted in 2005), age 18, who recently moved into a group home, we have 5 (not a typo!) dogs, 14 (again, not a typo) cats, and a bunch of chickens and four really stupid and extremely annoying geese that I constantly fantasize about gettng rid of, but so far have not had the heart (orlack thereof).
I guess you might say I'm a natural-born nurturer.
I'm a compulsive reader. While my reading "mood" changes with the wind, lately I enjoy mysteries that aren't real gory--Janet Evanovich is one of my favorites, along with Sue Grafton. Usually what happens is I'll be in a "shopping" mood, go to the thrift shop and find something very out of my "normal" realm and get going on it. It seems like the books that I enjoy often just "show up" when I need them!
