"If you want to be a champion, you have to train like one." ~ GSP
I saw this on other Sparkpages and I had to add it to mine. That's how I feel EVERYDAY!!!
When I first started my journey here on Spark, my main focus was to lose weight. I found that with weight loss being my focus that when I was stagnant or gained, I became discouraged. I decided to change my focus.
Now my goal is to be healthy, to be strong, to do good things for my body. I started running in May 2010 and have completed 4 organized 5K's and ran my first half marathon on May 1, 2011.
I'm eating healthier than I was, not perfect but a definite improvement. I still have trouble with portion sizes especially when the food is so yummy! I want to make sure I start eating less of what doesn't make my tummy happy and more of what does make my tummy happy!
Focusing on being healthy keeps the motivation going, because I can always find something I did that day that was good for my body. If I slipped up nutritionally, then I just have to focus on eating better the rest of the day or squeeze in a quick work out. It's harder to fail being focused on my health than being focused on weight loss. Weight loss is a result of living a healthy lifestyle.
To be healthy, be strong, be confident, be the woman I know I was meant to be.
I want to make it fun and enjoyable! Motivation is difficult for me. I give up real easily. So I'm going to eat healthy and organic and make sure my meals are balanced. I'm a runner and enjoy strength training/circuit training which will be forever in my exercise routines (altering it here and there so it doesn't get stale).
I was born and raised in the Chicago suburbs... As much as I love it here I wouldn't mind moving to some place warmer... Like Texas or some place beautiful like Colorado...
I've been married for 9 years to a wonderful man named Tony. We have 2 fur babies; a 6 year old Pit Bull/Border Collie mix, named Duke and a 3 year old Pit Bull/Labrador mix, named Roscoe. Both of my boys are rescues. We've had Duke since 3/28/09 & Roscoe since 8/10/10. They are our babies!
I have a lot of dreams and aspirations... Some are very tangible and others are crazy, but still possible. I definitely have a bucket list and am trying to chip away at it as time and sometimes money allows. The hubs and I are concentrating VERY hard and have systems in place to get out of debt (except for the mortgage) and that should happen in a few years. Once that's accomplished, that should open more doors to accomplish more on my bucket list since I won't be so restricted financially.

Hey there - I'm glad that maybe we can help figure out why you weren't losing weight. Stressing can be HUGE in influencing how your body responds to dieting & exercise. I think for now its a good idea to focus on nutrition and then once you're weight is down, then focus on exercise again. That might be less stress on you mentally and physically.
You know I'm always here to help you out!!! Definitely stick with it and I can't wait to see your progress!! Keep it up!!!

Hey honey - this could be caused by a few things. Perhaps when you eat "by the book" you're stressing about things more than you are now. Your body could release cortisol and thus cause weight retention in your body. It could be that you're still eating at too much of a deficit which is triggering issues with your workout schedule (do you wear a HRM when you workout?)
I know its super frustrating - trust me, I'm there as well! But eventually we'll get it right!! Stick with it! I'm glad you're seeing progress again and I hope we're able to figure all of this out!!!

Hiya sugar! Thanks so much for the comment! Its nice to hear from you!!! My birthday was fabulous and the hubby totally spoiled me (as always!) NM is great - but super hot! We had a few weeks where every day was 100+ degrees! UGH! Looking forward to Autumn for sure!! Other than that, I'm just working and training for a 10K - so trying to stay super busy! OH and thank you so much for voting for my tattoos!! I appreciate it! You can vote daily through August 8th - so feel free to keep it up!!!
In regards to your question - I really don't think your body freaks out and will store all your food for fuel as long as you're eating enough to support your exercise but maintain a deficit. Granted - food issues (like allergies, intolerances, etc) can stall weight loss but overall you shouldn't have this issue. I remember a few months ago you had asked about food intolerances and we tried an elimination diet that got you seeing progress - have you looked into what might have caused that?
What I've found that if I exercise a lot and try to eat less - sometimes I'll justify eating little snacks (even if they fit in my calorie counts) that might hinder my weight loss - but I'll allow myself to eat them because I worked out so hard. But when I just focused on nutrition, I don't allow the little extra stuff since I know that I don't have the extra calorie burn. Maybe this is happening and you might not realize it?? Just a thought.
Even if you weren't losing weight, did you notice other changes? Measurement changes? Improvements cardiovascularly? Strength increases?
Anyways, how are you doing?? Is it hotter than hell where you are right now??? I know the mid-West has just had a brutal summer so far!

The biggest change to what I've been doing really is just upping my protein!!! That's about it! Not a whole lot either. Just about 20 grams/day higher than it had been.
