Hi! My name is Melanie. I'm finally finished with college and just completed the first half of my first year of teaching. :) I'm very motivated to do my best, which is a big reason of why I've joined Sparkpeople. I feel that it's very important to be healthy, and I believe that this is a great environment of people and resources that will offer motivation and encouragement as I work to reach my personal fitness and nutrition goals, and I hope to do the same for others. :)

Hi! My name is Melanie. I'm finally finished with college and just completed the first half of my first year of teaching. :) I'm very motivated to do my best, which is a big reason of why I've joined Sparkpeople. I feel that it's very important to be healthy, and I believe that this is a great environment of people and resources that will offer motivation and encouragement as I work to reach my personal fitness and nutrition goals, and I hope to do the same for others. :)

I used to weigh about 30 pounds more than my current weight. However, over an approximate two-year span, I gradually got to the weight that I am today. I love going for walks, jogging, doing cardio workouts (like Jillian Michaels' 30-Day Shred, The Biggest Loser DVD's, Tae Bo), swimming during the summer, and riding my bike. About a year and a half ago, I got into running 5K's and have ran a total of three, each time placing in my age division. I've taken some time off from running since then and would like to get back into it so that I can train to run in longer races, like a 10K and possibly a half-marathon.

I'm a born-again believer in the One who paid the debt for my sin-- Jesus Christ. I love the Lord, and even though I mess up, I desire to live a life that is pleasing to Him.

My Goals:
I met one of my personal fitness goals this June, which was to run my first 5K! I absolutely loved it and am so excited about racing in more! I would also like to train to run in longer races, such as a 10K, a half-marathon, and maybe even a full marathon!

Overall, I would like to maintain my weight but tone more of my muscles.

My Program:
For a cardio workout, I jog about 3 miles just about every day and I sometimes do Jillian Michaels' 30-Day Shred.

In addition, I'm trying to drink water more often & make healthier choices with food. I've recently begun eating a more Mediterranean diet, which is very focused on eating a lot of fresh vegetables and fruits, nuts, beans, fish. It also focuses on the use of olive oil above any other oil, and also eating very little poultry and red meat.

Personal Information:
I've begun reading more from my Bible and learning more than I ever really knew.

Hey girl!! How's the training going? I did 4 miles last weekend and 3 miles day before yesterday but I took yesterday off... Today I'm doing some cross training. Thanks for the comment on my page!! Hope you have a great day :-)
