Melayahm's healthier middle age page

Hit the dreaded 50 and feel my mortality, but worse, feel an overweight, painful old age coming on first. I need to change, if not now, then I never will and I'll be one of those old ladies waddling along with aching joints.
I currently clean in a private school, and that's the most exercise I get, which isn't nothing but I still snack too much. And I need to improve my suppleness or I'll seize up. Losing weight will mean less weight to lug around which means I'll move faster, and so on.

My Goals:
To be able to just run when I feel like it and not be burning and wheezing after a few feet. To get my belly off my lap. To get down to a size 14 (currently 18 top 16 bottom) so I can choose from chic goth clothes. To lose weight to take the stress off my knees . To prove that I can lose weight, and to change how I eat so that I don't suffer so much when I get old. To keep my health up so that I CAN get old!

My Program:
I've already cut out snacking between meals, sweets, chocolate and biscuits (except for Jaffa cakes on a game night). Drink more and more water. I don't drink alcohol anyhow. Keep on tracking food, now that I've finally started. To find more, interesting, exercise dvds

Hi Stonecot

I've bought Tesco's equivalent of the reduced fat sausages, going to have them tonight to empty out the fridge, see if partner and daughter notice. We've also had low fat pasta tomato sauce, and they seemed not to notice that, so, as I do the shopping, that's the way we'll be going, lol!

To make your calorie alliance stretch further, try adding your foods into the nutrition tracker in the morning so you can see where they're mounting up and where you can adjust them a bit. And try sainsburys butchers choice, pork reduced fat sausages, 93 cals each, and davidstows lighter chedder. I can't tell the difference between that and normal cheddar.

Welcome to SparkPeople. I am so glad that you found us. There is a lot of information here and the best tools to help you reach your goals.

I have been on SparkPeople since April 2009 and I have lost a total of 30 pounds since I have been watching what I eat. Are there days when I eat stuff that I know I shouldn’t – of course. This is a life long journey, one with many paths to take. I just have to keep making the right choices and when I don’t, I get back on the right path and don’t look back.

The encouragement and motivation I get from my Spark friends is amazing. They are always there to help me through tough times and bring a smile to my face. I have found that if I post something that is bothering me, within an hour someone will respond back and make sure everything is alright and offer encouragement.

Being new, I would suggest that you use Your Spark Points (click on View SparkPoints) as a map to the site. It is a good way to see what is new and a great tool for any situation.

My other suggestion is to get on a few teams. Make sure that when you are checking out a team that you look to see if there has been recent activity. If you join a team where there is no activity, chance are that you will not get the support and encouragement you need. You are more than welcome to check out my team, Spin Me A Yarn. It is a small team but it is active and I always try to find new topics to talk about.

Best of luck on your journey and I hope it is a successful one.

Sincerely,
Liz
