Welcome to my page and my weight loss journey from 240lbs to my goal to be in the 150's. I had lapband surgery in May of 2011 and utilize SparkPeople to track and keep me motivated. So far it's working! Thank you SP!
Update June 2016: Well 13lbs turned into 30 lbs gained from my lowest weight in the past 2 yrs. Gotta tell ya..... it wasn't the lapband that stopped working. It was ME!!! I stopped exercising regularly, tracking food, staying in touch with my Spark friends, and started letting no-no foods back in..... bread, sweets and ice cream. Joined Weight Watchers and am back on track losing. How quickly I can get back to eating and exercising the way my Lapband needs me to. I don't have a lot of restriction, but enough to slow me down and keep from eating too much. This life-long struggle for me is achievable as long as I stay motivated and focused on the right things.... healthy food, exercise, accountability and support from like-minded people. 5yrs out and still love my Band!
Update Jan 2014: Still focusing on eating healthy and exercising. In 2013 I have gained 13lbs from my lowest weight. Let my guard down a bit while travelling and enjoying family. Life is certainly all about finding the right balance. My band still keeps me from eating too much but after the weight gain of last summer I thought a tiny fill was in order to help me take it off. I got a half CC fill which I could definitely feel the difference. 3 months down the road, I am ready to have it taken out. Just too tight for my comfort. I have found that weight loss is going to happen in my head and not in my stomach! Eat sensibly and exercise often is the key. Always has been. Always will be!
Update Jan 2013: What a great year I had in 2012! I lost 12lbs. and 15 inches! Slow and steady wins this race. I work my plan and stick with it. I travel a lot and incorporate fitness into my routine regardless of where I am. No more grains and far less dairy in my diet. I think this has helped me level out my cravings. My band is at the sweet spot and I am loving my band! My goal for 2013 is to get through the 160's. Increase my fitness intensity by incorporating more cardio and strength training. Look out 2013.... here I come!
Update May 2012: It's been a year! How time flies. I look back at who I was 2 years ago and see who I am today and I know that the lapband was the right decision for me. My whole outlook on food, exercise, health has changed for the better. And the scales prove it. I'm back to losing again after a long plateau in the 180's. Finally saw a 7 on that scale!! Got a small fill during my 1 yr checkup. Working with it slowly trying to introduce solid food. My focus is still the same... follow the lapband rules, exercise, track, stay positive and motivated. Year 2, I'm comin to get'cha!!
Update Jan 2012: Well I am 7 months into lapband world. I am very pleased with the whole experience so far. have just recently reached a good fill level and have good restriction. Still have some getting used to eating small bites, slow down and no water with meal, etc. I am currently stalled in my weight loss but I am determined to get off this plateau with the help of SP and my Lapband friends! I have lost 60lbs, down 20lbs since surgery and have 30 more to go to reach my goal weight. Had a very successful year in 2011. Life is sooooooo good!
Hi! I am a newly retired lady who wants to live the best I can. I am a country girl who loves to be outdoors in the garden, planting flowers or spending time with my grandkids. Am preparing for lapband surgery in May. Look forward to a healthier me!
1. Follow basic Lapband Rules.
2. 1 hr of outdoor activity 5x's a week.
3. Track Meals & Exercise
4. Increase exercise intensity to include jogging, intervals & strength training. 4-5 x's/week.
5. Get into the 150's by yr-end
6. Stay positive!
I utilize SP to track my goals so I can stay accountable to my program of weight loss. I am active in several teams which provide support and motivation. My focus is to eat the right foods, the right amount at the right time. I have a varied exercise routine so I utilize all muscle groups. I surround myself with positive people, thoughts and images. My program is designed to be all encompassing... Mind, Body and Spirit.
I live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in a beautiful setting of woods and streams. I enjoy the outdoors with my two Boston Terriers.... Fred and Sanford.

I am happy to see someone in the same phases as me on the FMD! It is nice to check in and see what others have to say, and helps to have the encouragement :) I have belonged to the site for a long time but with this diet and group I feel like I have real support... thanks for adding me

Hi, sorry to hear you are struggling a bit with FMD, I can see how difficult it must be to stick to whilst away. There is so much food to prepare. Although I've beginning to see how I could do similar meals with far less preparation time that the menus from her book - my freezers running out of space for more of her recipes!!!
I lost 4.5lb in the first week, and another 0.5lb this morning, so am actually very pleased with that. This week's going to be a lot harder, as I'm out and about a lot more travelling around our offices and in meetings, so fitting everything is will be tough - I've changed a lot of the meals to things I've prepared, and are easy to take and go.
I hope you can stick with it, I really think it's worth it, but I understand it's not easy - all the best.

Hi, I've really enjoyed phase 3 and found it quite easy to follow. Not tried Cashew nut butter yet, but been having almond butter and that's totally yummy too. Had the Coconut chicken curry tonight and so quick and easy to cook and loved that too.
Actually looking forward to my weigh in tomorrow and I'm going to do my measurements again, will be interesting to see what the first week has achieved.
I've found FMD quite easy to follow, rarely been hungry and I think positive results. Looking forward to week 2 - think it will be easier as have learnt a few tricks this week.
