January 15, 2014 is my one year anniversary committing to a healthy weight and healthy. I lost 30 lbs this year, and I have been maintaining now for 18 weeks, and maintained successfully from Halloween to New Years. Thatís a biggie for me! Last year at this time, I threw myself into HIIT and Cardio on the treadmill to jumpstart my weight loss. Now I am regularly road running, racing, and training for my first HM! I did many firsts this past year, it has given me a new outlook, and I am pledging to continue my healthy lifestyle in 2014. I ran my first 5K (3 total), 4M(2), 5M, and 10K (2). My litmus test to being fit is I successfully completed the 8 mile turnaround, with a 635 ft climb, Rave Run up and down the Sabino Canyon Road, Tucson, just last week. I could not have done this a year ago when I started this journey. It was a great way to start the New Year.

Running is a passion for me now. I began road running, at age 52, in March of 2013, after walking for 2 years. I needed a challenge, a change, and a stress relief. Running does it all.

Maintenance here I am. I am here to stay!

My Goals:
I reached my 30 lb loss on Sept 6, 2013 after 9 months of fitness, running, and dietary modifications. Now in maintenance, I strive to become more fit with a regular commitment to HIIT and cardio, and continued training in running and races.

My Program:
Keep on Running!

Perseverance and the desire to change.

Personal Information:
I started my running career at age 52. Your never too old to start.

I planned to run my first 10K in October and I am looking for my first HM in the winter or spring.

Other fitness choices begin with HIIT using Jillian Michaels circuit training, Jump Roping, and swimming.

Other Information:
Active recreational choices include hiking, jet skiing, and running tours. I would love to do a destination HM to a special location.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my Reflections blog. Being able to introduce my daughter and grandchildren to their Slovak relatives and their heritage was so worthwhile.
I had to drive to town for Internet access since neither it nor my AC are working at our house. Connecting with SP is an essential part of my life. I appreciate the support.

Thank you, yes the mental challenge came to the forefront in this race. I was unsure how much I could endure before my body refused to cooperate, but I decided to continue anyway. I'm really glad I was able to finish. Thanks for the nice words.

Well, I walked 10 miles last night at the Relay for Life - 6-9pm. Did the survivor lap, they served us a dinner after & back on the track.

Not sore at all today. First time EVER doing the Relay. I have done the last 7 of them since my Sister in Law passed. We walked together in June2007, she died that August of Cancer & I walk every year for her. I am glad we had finally got off our butts & did it. We always said we would - just happened to be THAT year. I take it as an Omen & a Tribute to her.

Anyhow, your burger sounds great. Sounds like you have good plans. Our 29 year old comes home on Thursday for a few days so I need to get his room in order. Has become my WORKOUT/CLOSET room.

Enjoy your plans...

It's only really an issue for my goal to BQ. Other than that, you just deal with it, of course. Still, unlike other race distances that you can run more frequently, training for a peak marathon requires an investment of about 4 months and while you can run several a year "to finish" you can really only run two a year at race pace (safely). Whine, whine.

I think it will take ideal race conditions for me to BQ, but who knows. I may surprise myself. Or get lucky with the weather.

Of course the weather in San Francisco will be great. Too bad it is too close in time to San Diego. And also very crowded. It will be for fun. The last time I ran it, I actually had people stopping right in front of me to take pictures.
