"Tantalizing, Trepidatious, I move one foot in front of the other I am a runner There is no greater joy in the three worlds... May this incredible experience of movement be the source of all happiness" -Sakyong Jamgon Mipham Rinpoche Hello! I'm a 37 year old single gal living on South Beach. I love being outdoors, and I try to go to the beach just about every day. I enjoy running on the boardwalk, going for long bike rides, and going to the gym for strength training (well, not that part so much!) I am at an ideal weight for my height, and almost always have been, but I have a huge interest in fitness and nutrition. I am NOT one of those people that can eat whatever they want, so I do need the motivation and the feedback from other people who are also pursuing a healthy lifestyle. It's inspiring to read people's success stories, and to know that other people struggle over a pint of Chunkey Monkey, or want to hit the snooze button at 6am instead of exercising! Aside from exercise, I enjoy reading, travelling, my cats, spending time with friends and my boyfriend, and cooking. **************************************** ********************************** UPDATE! Well, after more than 2 years on Spark, I thought it might be a good idea to "take stock" and put down in writing what I've taken away from the experience so far. I read so many people's Spark pages and they come here from a place of inactivity and poor food choices. It's awesome to read about their progress. I always get goosebumps reading about someone who used to be a couch potato and now cannot live without exercise and is giving tips to others about learning to like veggies! BUT.... what does someone like me, who has always lived to exercise (thanks for that, Dad!) and enjoys "eating healthy", get from Spark?! PLENTY! Although I have always been an avid runner, I had not run a race in years. Thanks to the motivation and support from the Road Runners, I signed up for a half marathon in 2007 (my first in 7 years) and beat my previous time by over 5 minutes! Since then, I've run 3 more half marathons, a 15k, several 10ks and have signed up for a whopping FIVE half marathons this season. If I ever doubt that I can handle that schedule, all I have to do is come to Spark to get the support and encouragement I need. Some mornings, the alarm goes off and I really want to ignore it and stay in bed. But I know that all over the world, other Sparkers are getting up and exercising. Not only that, some of those people are juggling things I could never imagine squeezing into my life along with exercise, such as long commutes, family commitments, inclement weather and physical limitations. That knowledge is what gets me up and out the door nearly every day! On the other end of things, I am thrilled when I can provide an answer to someone, or give them support. Knowing that little, ordinary, totally average me can provide inspiration or motivation to someone else keeps me coming back. In short, I'VE BEEN SPARKED! And you can, too!

My Goals:
I have a healthy lifestyle, but I feel like I need a little extra motivation to maintain it. 2013 Races: ING Miami Marathon 1/27/13 3:44:59 - PR RUNNING PR'S: 8k - 36:32 10k - 44:43 21k - 1:38:38 42k - 3:44:59
My Program:
Running! Running is my PASSION. I play around a little with my mileage, but this is what I'm doing right now: S - 10 miles M - 6 miles + core T - ST W - 10 miles Th - 10 miles F - ST S - 18, 20 or 22 miles Strength training! It's so important. Many runners blow it off, but when you are fatigued and have a ways to go, having a strong upper body makes all the difference. Also, I will admit that I like having "guns"! :D I subscribe to the Michael Pollan theory of eating - Eat real food, not too much, mostly plants. I have modified it to include a dark chocolate and ice cream component!
