MY PROGRESS TO DATE.

Shared Food & Fitness Trackers
The first reason I am pursuing weight loss is my health. I am a 51 yr old woman. My weight is 350 lbs. My BMI is above 60. Most of my life, I have had weight issues and struggled to loose or even maintain my weight. I have Arthritis in my knees, feet and lower back, which limits my mobility. I have suffered from Gerd and IBS, in the past. I need to wear a pad because I sometimes have urinary incontinence. I have a skin condition on the shins of my legs that never seems to go away. My primary care Dr. recently stated that I have border line High blood pressure. My mother was morbidly obese, a diabetic, had high blood pressure, degenerative Arthritis and died at 72 of CML. My father had Heart decease, and suffered a massive brain hemorrhage at age 56 and died at age 64. I believe I have inherited their health. Most research I have seen states that many of my conditions are treatable or can be largely controlled by weight loss. I want to have weight loss surgery because I do not want to die early, and feel that my quality of life will be much better if I could reduce and maintain a considerable amount of weight to control or eliminate my health issues. The second reason is for my self esteem.
I am tired of being the one with the pretty face and being told “You are so cute, if you would just loose a few lbs. you would be beautiful”. I want to be able to go to any public event and fit in the seat. I don’t want people staring at me, when my 4X shirt pulls up and my big belly sticks out. I never want to set in a metal folding chair again and have it collapse. I want to go into a store and find an outfit in my size, and not feel embarrassed or have the skinny sales clerk says we don’t carry your size here, and politely suggest you try United Tent and Awning down the street. I want to be able to tie my own tennis shoes and have the bows be straight. I want my Buda earlobes to go back to the sides of my head like they belong. And last but not least for my family.
Ken is my common law spouse; we have been together for twenty five yrs. We were married and divorced. Then after we grew up, we reconciled. He has never once made any derogatory comments about my weight. However, I feel that our life would be much more fulfilling if the things we do for entertainment were not restricted by my weight and limited mobility. My children are Mike (age 23) and Julie (age 21). I want to be there and involved in their lives. My parents were not at my wedding and my dad never saw my children, because of poor health. I want to be there for my kids and their children too. I am not able to go shopping or do any of the stuff my kids like to do, because of my weight. My daughter is like my little nursemaid. I don’t want her to have to be that. I was the nursemaid for my mom and I don’t want to do that to my Julie. I remember the movie “What’s eating Gilbert Grape” I lived that with my mother, and I don’t want my children to resent me because of my weight, and how it makes them feel. Then there are my pets, I consider them part of the family. Maggie May and Diesel. When I retired in April of 2008, the only thing I was looking forward to was taking them for long daily walks. And again the extra weight on my back makes it too difficult.
I joined sparkspeople, so that i could track my meals and eat healthy before I have weight loss surgery
I have been eating better. trying to make sure that I stay with in the guide lines set forth by sparspeople's nutrienest.

Hi Mary, I wanted to add you when I saw your post in the boot camp challenge team. I, too, have had weight loss surgery. I have the lap band. My surgery was 5/12/08. My weight on that day was 288.3. My lowest weight so far since having the band was 251. I've gained a few of those pounds back...so, I'm looking to get out of the 250's by the end of the month...and hopefully down a few more pounds than that for my trip to Key West with my hubby at the end of January.
I look forward to getting to know you better! :)
