Building This Bridge for Them

I am a Catholic homeschooling mom of three beautiful kids - well, the oldest has finished college and is working now and the second is in college, so only my baby is left at home with me (except in the summers). I am a Catholic homeschooling mom of three beautiful kids - well, the oldest has finished college and is working now and the second is in college, so only my baby is left at home with me (except in the summers). My baby, Danny, who is fourteen, was diagnosed with medulloblastoma (brain cancer) in March of 2013. Since then he has undergone two major surgeries, six weeks of radiation, and over a year of chemotherapy. He was in remission for a few brief months, and then relapsed. This is a very difficult time for us.

I myself am a breast cancer survivor, and I have degenerative arthritis in my hip, which makes walking painful. Other than that, I am pretty healthy, for which I am extremely grateful.

We are looking into the best relapse treatment for Danny and I will post when I know more.

My Goals:
Right now my goals are to incorporate small healthy changes. One other goal is to be able to exercise without severe pain in my hip...not sure if that is feasible with my arthritis.

My Program:
I am trying to eat more fruits and vegetables, plus walking as much as I can without pain.

Personal Information:
I am originally an Army brat and have lived in quite a few places. Currently I am in Texas, at least for a while. I have three kids, ages 24, 21, and 14. My degrees are in chemistry, but at the moment I am concentrating on trying to get Danny through relapse treatment and all that that entails.

Other Information:
Strength of character isn't always about how much you can handle before you break, it's also about how much you can handle after you've broken.

I just corrected my blog about DH's swimming. Breaststroke burns more calories than backstroke. I didn't hear him correctly and he missed the error when he proofread it. Since breaststroke is the most restful stroke for me, it sounded reasonable. It must be a matter of intensity though. I go really slow in breaststroke.

Yep, FryDaddies SEEM like a good idea until you buy one and realize you have to fill it with like a gallon of oil every. single. time. you use it. I gave mine away. Never did make it smoke or catch fire though. Not like I do with waffle irons and hot skillets with oil in them. I'm not sure if my bad luck with cooking with oil is God's way of telling me I shouldn't do it or God's way of telling me I should do it more often so I get better at it...these are the mysteries my of life. emoticon

Thank you so much for your comments and compliments on my blogs. When I look at you and Danny I see so much inspiration. Danny for all he's going through but I also think its sometimes harder on the moms than the child. It's really hard on him I know but I've never had to watch one of my children go through what you've had to see and deal with. So I guess we inspire each other LOL. Anyway, you know how awesome Danny is in spite of his fight against some of his treatments. But remember how awesome YOU are.
