Sparking Martha to keep losing
Four kids, little exercise and long work days (with poor eating habits) had contributed to my weight creeping up. I had reached 201 pounds (on my 5' 5" frame) when I decided I needed to actually work on my weight!! I did Medifast for ~6 weeks and lost ~12 pounds, but the products (which I liked, were easy and never left me hungry) were made with a lot of soy and that stopped agreeing with my stomach. I joined SparkPeople when I wanted to keep losing but rely on real food versus a food supplement. My husband and a photo of me from a Disney trip were my original inspirations. The photo from Disney made me go "wow, how did all that weight gain happen?" and my husband gently let me know he was concerned about my long term health. He's very supportive of me, which has helped, and will continue to. Since starting SparkPeople I've lost ~40 pounds (depending on the day), changed my eating habits overall and begun the first foray into the world of exercise. I started out thinking this was a diet but now I think of it as a manner of living a live that will take me through a healthier second half of life with my husband.

My Goals:
Three main goals: 1. fit into clothes that don't include "W" or "XXL" in the size anymore (Goal met...out of "W" and XXL, out of XL mostly. Can wear pants 2 sizes smaller than when I started in February. August update: down 2 more sizes...smaller than my wedding day in size, if not weight.) 2. Return to a healthy weight on the BMI scale by moving from "obese" to "overweight" and then from "overweight" to "healthy." (First part of goal met...no longer obese. At visit to doctor in late April he CLAPPED when I got on the scale! August update: the BMI calculator says I have 11 pounds to go until I am "healthy" weight but I no longer look overweight.) 3. feel happy about the photos we get back after our family vacation to Disney in November of 2009
My Program:
To start with I am going to focus on making SURE I get in all the water for the day...plus some...and staying within the calorie range. I haven't really exercised for years and will be adding that slowly. Note: 3 weeks into doing SP began adding tiny bits of exercise...more to come. May update: have been very sporadic with exercise but getting there. Late May update: I am just wrapping up the paperwork to work with someone to get me going more on the fitness side...need some help there. The eating is going great!
Personal Information:
Mom of four kids; busy life; great husband...life is good (except for being too heavy, and that one I am finally working on!)
Other Information:
Things are easier when people help and encourage you. A corollary is that people feel better when they help others!
