A 'new' me.

Hi I'm Martha-Ann.
I WILL endeavour to reach the goal I've set myself.
I CAN do it.
I want to be healthier and eat better.
I've had a few health problems but I've beaten cancer and now I'm just getting on with life.

I love SparkPeople.
It has everything I could ask for.
Good advice, great ideas but most of all friendship.
The people I've met through this site are wonderful and are helping me towards a better, healthier way of life.

THANKYOU.

This is a Sanskrit proverb by the fifth century poet Kalidasa, it seems to sum things up perfectly.

Salutation to the Dawn.

Listen to the salutation of the dawn!
Look to this day,
For it is life,
The very life of life.
In its brief course lie all
The realities and verities of existence.

The bliss of growth,
The splendour of action,
The glory of power...

For yesterday is but a dream,
And tomorrow is only a vision.
But today, well lived,
Makes every yesterday a dream of happiness,
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Look well, therefore, to this day.
Such is the salutation of the dawn!

My Goals:
I want to feel more confident about myself.

I want to be as fit and healthy as I can.

I want to live to see my grandchildren (and possibly their children) grow up and be healthy and fit enough to enjoy them.

I want to work on small goals of 10lbs and give myself a small reward everytime I hit one.

I want to see a 'new' me!!

My Program:
Daily exercising, going for long walks, gardening.

Eating healthily.
It is not a diet, it's a healthy eating programme.
It's a way of life and it's going to be MY way of life for the rest of MY life!

Personal Information:
I'm from Yorkshire, England...we call it 'God's Own Country'.

I live in a small village in the country but am only a few miles from the sea so I have the best of both worlds.

I'm 66 years young.

My DH and I have been happily married for 43 years.

I'm a wife, mother, grandma, nana, niece, cousin, aunt and great aunt.

I'm retired from primary education, l had to take early retirement due to illness and after a long struggle l'm now cancer free and back to being part of my community again.
I decided to lose weight and get healthy and am now working towards that goal.

Other Information:
My hobbies are very varied, everything from puzzles to zentangles, reading to gardening, walking to birdwatching, writing to photography.
I love language too, the nuances and foibles, so I enjoy dabbling with writing and poetry...my son once called me a wordsmith...I wish I lived up to it!

Thanks for the comments on my sheep shearing blog.

I will be using the wool. We are going to try dyeing the wool over the summer. I want to make a braided rug for my living room, but I don't want it to be white.

I also spin and knit. I plan on making my friends and famliy mittens for Christmas.

Am off to the church this morning to meet with Elaine and Steph for coffee and a chat. Steph has started working parttime so am not seeing her as often. Then a couple of errands and a stop at the club.

I stopped at the club yesterday, but did not have my "key" to get in - but am definitely going today. I am gradually increasing my walk time on the treadmill - and am planning to go every day. Feel so much better when i go. And now that it is warming up will be walking more in the neighborhood - and downtown, since we are so close. And it is time to clean out the flower beds - am thinking about planting more geraniums this year - they seem to do best here.

Hope you have a great day - sounds like it will be a full one!!

Good Morning, Miss Sunshine!

I was not ill - guess i was just taking a break. Been going thru my fabric and yarns - and getting rid of some that i will not use. And that meant clearing off a space in the hall closet. What a chore. When Geoff and i moved here to Pendleton about 9 years ago we downsized to about half - and i think we have accumulated back to where we were. Where does all the "stuff" come from?????

We have daffodils blooming and looks like my tulips are peeking out to see what the weather is like. It is cool at night but was quite warm yesterday and looks like we may hit 70 this week.

Meeting with a small group at church this morning and knitting thus afternoon. Am kinda between projects right now so am knitting more socks - the color is called "Christmas" and is lots of reds and greens. So will probably be for my daughter - she loves my knit socks.

Hope your weather changes soon -
And, thank you for your friendship - would be such fun if we could meet for a cup of tea and a chat.
