Hi I'm Martha-Ann.
I WILL endeavour to reach the goal I've set myself.
I CAN do it.
I want to be healthier and eat better.
I've had a few health problems, still a couple left, but I've beaten cancer and now I'm just getting on with life.

I love SparkPeople.
It has everything I could ask for.
Good advice, great ideas but most of all friendship.
The people I've met through this site are wonderful and are helping me towards a better, healthier way of life.

This is a Sanskrit proverb by the fifth century poet Kalidasa, it seems to sum things up perfectly.

Salutation to the Dawn.

Listen to the Salutation of the Dawn!
Look to this day,
For it is life,
The very life of life.
In its brief course lie all
The realities and verities of existence.

The bliss of growth,
The splendour of action,
The glory of power...

For yesterday is but a dream,
And tomorrow is only a vision.
But today, well lived,
Makes every yesterday a dream of happiness,
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Look well, therefore, to this day.
Such is the salutation of the dawn!

My Goals:
I want to feel more confident about myself.

I want to be as fit and healthy as I can.

I want to live to see my grandchildren (and possibly their children) grow up and be healthy and fit enough to enjoy them.

I want to work on small goals of 10lbs and give myself a small reward everytime I hit one.

I want to see a 'new' me!!

My Program:
Daily exercising, going for long walks, gardening.

Eating healthily.
It is not a diet, it's a healthy eating programme.
It's a way of life and it's going to be MY way of life for the rest of MY life!

Personal Information:
I'm from Yorkshire, England...we call it 'God's Own Country'.

I live in a small village in the country but am only a few miles from the sea so I have the best of both worlds.

I'm 66 years young.

My DH and I have been happily married for 44 years.

I'm a wife, mother, grandma, nana, niece, cousin, aunt and great aunt.

I'm retired from primary education, l had to take early retirement due to illness and after a long struggle l'm now cancer free and back to being part of my community again.
I decided to lose weight and get healthy and am now working towards that goal.
l've been diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica which is a bit of a challenge but l will conquer it.

Other Information:
My hobbies are very varied, everything from puzzles to zentangles, reading to gardening, walking to birdwatching, writing to photography.
I love language too, the nuances and foibles, so I enjoy dabbling with writing and son once called me a wordsmith...I wish I lived up to it!

Can't believe it has been over 2 weeks since I stopped by. Hope you and yours are doing well.

We have been having beautiful Spring weather here - in the high 70s and low 80s. Geoff is already "complaining" about the heat!! I told him it is just warming up a bit - just wait!! hee hee. But, I do love the warm weather.

Not much new here. We are still cleaning up from the fire on the balcony above us a couple of weeks ago. Not too serious but could have been much worse if a gal passing by had not alerted us.

Have a granddaughter who will be graduating from High School next month. She was just in grade school when i moved here. Wow - how the time does pass.

I have been busy knitting and am doing a bit of quilting. My Daughter wants another runner for their dining room table. She loves her chickens so found some fun material for that. Want to get it finished by Mother's Day.

Hope you and your Husband are well and enjoying a beautiful Spring.

    Love always,

Just stopped by to see how you and yours are doing. Spring is finally here and we are in the 70's today. YEAH!! I do love the warmer weather.

Got out and did some weeding this afternoon - and have a couple of plants to put out.

I am doing well - except that i did cut my leg. Should have had stitches, but did not - so it is healing slower than it would have. But, it is healing.

I had planned to cancel my membership at the 24 Hour Fitness Club - but when i went it she gave me a deal i could not pass. So will renew for another year. I do enjoy going there - but have a pretty tight budget this year - so the reduced price is a good thing.

I hope you and your Husband are enjoying good weather - and your beautiful garden!!
