Hi I'm Martha-Ann.
I WILL endeavour to reach the goal I've set myself.
I CAN do it.
I want to be healthier and eat better.
I've had a few health problems, still a couple left, but I've beaten cancer and now I'm just getting on with life.

I love SparkPeople.
It has everything I could ask for.
Good advice, great ideas but most of all friendship.
The people I've met through this site are wonderful and are helping me towards a better, healthier way of life.
THANKYOU.

This is a Sanskrit proverb by the fifth century poet Kalidasa, it seems to sum things up perfectly.

Salutation to the Dawn.

Listen to the salutation of the dawn!
Look to this day,
For it is life,
The very life of life.
In its brief course lie all
The realities and verities of existence.

The bliss of growth,
The splendour of action,
The glory of power...

For yesterday is but a dream,
And tomorrow is only a vision.
But today, well lived,
Makes every yesterday a dream of happiness,
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Look well, therefore, to this day.
Such is the salutation of the dawn!

I want to work on small goals of 10lbs and give myself a small reward everytime I hit one.

I want to see a 'new' me!!

My Program:
Daily exercising, going for long walks, gardening.

Eating healthily.
It is not a diet, it's a healthy eating programme.
It's a way of life and it's going to be MY way of life for the rest of MY life!

Personal Information:
I'm from Yorkshire, England...we call it 'God's Own Country'.

My DH and I have been happily married for 44 years.

I'm a wife, mother, grandma, nana, niece, cousin, aunt and great aunt.

I'm retired from primary education, l had to take early retirement due to illness and after a long struggle l'm now cancer free and back to being part of my community again.
I decided to lose weight and get healthy and am now working towards that goal.
l've been diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica which is a bit of a challenge but l will conquer it.

Other Information:
My hobbies are very varied, everything from puzzles to zentangles, reading to gardening, walking to birdwatching, writing to photography.
I love language too, the nuances and foibles, so I enjoy dabbling with writing and poetry...my son once called me a wordsmith...I wish I lived up to it!

Have been having a "pitty" party this week - not sure why. Except that we had a shooting at a community college here in Oregon on Monday - 9 were killed. And, somehow it impacted me more than usual. Roseburg is a small community and I just keep thinking that it could so happen here in Pendleton at our community college. Just can't seem to shake the ill ease.

But I have been knitting more - am knitting scarfs for our Warming Station - and have a sweater for me "growing" on the needles. A fun knit.

Hope you and your hubby are doing well. We are having beautiful fall weather here - some rain during the night and then bright sunshine during the day. Am starting to clean out some of my flower beds and getting them ready for the cold to come.

    Take care,
    barb

So good to hear that you and yours are doing well. Glad you have so enjoyed your grandchildren.

Well. yesterday was the last day of RoundUp - so the town will be fairly empty this morning - just a few stragglers packing up. It is a amazing how quickly downtown can be cleared out. They do have a deadline to be out. But, I think it has been a good year.

Jordon, my Navy grandson and his wife were here (he is stationed in San Diego) for the week and we had family pictures taken - am anxious to see how they turn out. There were 13 of us - so fun.

It has cooled down some and we have had a bit of rain - not enough tho.
And looks like it will be a warm week.

I am doing well - have even lost a couple of pounds - not sure where they went. The only thing i have done is to eliminate most sugars from my diet. I really did not eat many sweets but did enjoy that Maple bar when Elaine and I get together Tues mornings. Now am just having a donut that is not frosted. - And have stopped putting sugar in my coffee. It is amazing what a difference just a couple of small changes like that can make.

Well, time to get ready for church. So good to here from you.
    Love and hugs,

Oh, my, how the days have flown by.
Have not done much - just my regular times with knitting friends and my "dates" with Elaine.

This is the start of Round-Up week here in Pendleton. Yesterday was the motorized parade. Lots of older cars and floats. Did not go down to watch - but we could hear the music from our apartment.

I have been doing more knitting recently - am knitting scarfs for the Warming Station. During the winter months it is open nights for the homeless when the temp is below freezing - and that is fairly often here. A couple of the gals have been knitting caps so thought i would do some scarfs. Still have a container of acrylic yarn that my Sister sent me. Will be a good use for it.

Yesterday my daughter came over for a while and we had a good visit. She has changed so much the past few months. She had been do depressed - but attended a class at church and has had a lot of healing from her past. And she has lost about 30 pounds.

Well, need to get up and moving. I tend to sit too long and that is not good!!!

Enjoy the rain - we could really use some here -

Love you background - Poo Bear is one of our favorites!!

I see you are enjoying time with grand daughters - yesterday i was out running errands and kept meeting Jenni - she will be a senior in High School this year. Such a bright, loving girl.

It has cooled off today - but there is lots of smoke in the air from our forest fires. Seems like we are trying to burn up the NW this summer - lots of fires and we have lost a few of our fire-fighters. Really sad.

I am doing fine - eating much better and drinking more water. I tend to retain water and find that i do better, when i drink more water. So right now my goal is 6 glasses a day. I know i keep trying to drink more water, but i just do not like it!! Our tap water is really bad with all the chemicals they add, but we do have a Brita pitcher that really helps.

Well, have a good day with your family!!

Just stopping by to see how you are doing. Hope you had a good visit with your family. I know how much you enjoy them.

I am doing good this week - becoming more active. Yesterday I cleaned out the coat closet. Did not realize how much "stuff" I had put in there. Now it seems almost empty. But, will probably fill it up again soon. lol.

    Hugs,
