Hi I'm Martha-Ann.
I WILL endeavour to reach the goal I've set myself.
I CAN do it.
I want to be healthier and eat better.
I've had a few health problems, still a couple left, but I've beaten cancer and now I'm just getting on with life.

I love SparkPeople.
It has everything I could ask for.
Good advice, great ideas but most of all friendship.
The people I've met through this site are wonderful and are helping me towards a better, healthier way of life.

This is a Sanskrit proverb by the fifth century poet Kalidasa, it seems to sum things up perfectly.

Salutation to the Dawn.

Listen to the Salutation of the Dawn!
Look to this day,
For it is life,
The very life of life.
In its brief course lie all
The realities and verities of existence.

The bliss of growth,
The splendour of action,
The glory of power...

For yesterday is but a dream,
And tomorrow is only a vision.
But today, well lived,
Makes every yesterday a dream of happiness,
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Look well, therefore, to this day.
Such is the salutation of the dawn!

I want to live to see my grandchildren (and possibly their children) grow up and be healthy and fit enough to enjoy them.

I want to work on small goals of 10lbs and give myself a small reward everytime I hit one.

I want to see a 'new' me!!

My Program:
Daily exercising, going for long walks, gardening.

Eating healthily.
It is not a diet, it's a healthy eating programme.
It's a way of life and it's going to be MY way of life for the rest of MY life!

Personal Information:
I'm from Yorkshire, England...we call it 'God's Own Country'.

I live in a small village in the country but am only a few miles from the sea so I have the best of both worlds.

I'm 66 years young.

My DH and I have been happily married for 44 years.

I'm a wife, mother, grandma, nana, niece, cousin, aunt and great aunt.

I'm retired from primary education, l had to take early retirement due to illness and after a long struggle l'm now cancer free and back to being part of my community again.
I decided to lose weight and get healthy and am now working towards that goal.
l've been diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica which is a bit of a challenge but l will conquer it.

Other Information:
My hobbies are very varied, everything from puzzles to zentangles, reading to gardening, walking to birdwatching, writing to photography.
I love language too, the nuances and foibles, so I enjoy dabbling with writing and son once called me a wordsmith...I wish I lived up to it!

Sunday was my Daughter, Kathi's, birthday - After church we met at the Dairy Queen. She and I split a hamburger and she has TWO of the large ice cream desserts. She said she had gained back a few pounds so was going to splurge and then go back on her diet. She has done so well at keeping the weight off. I think she uses the Atkins Diet.

It has been warm here the past couple of weeks. Cooler the past few days, but still predicted in the 50's this week.

Hope you and yours are doing well. I suppose you are still enjoying your grandchildren.

Love the quilled flowers - did you do them?? Had a cousin who did quilled pictures and they were just beautiful. I have the tools and the strips, but have just not gotten them out to do some.

Can't believe how quickly the past few weeks have flown by!! Not really so busy here, but have done quite a bit of knitting. I did buy a beading book and want to make a bracelet and necklace for my daughter. She does like the pieces I have made for her and keeps hinting that she would like some new pieces. Just need to get to the bead store and see what new things they have.

It has warmed up here some - and rained most of yesterday. I do love the rain. The sun is out bright this morning - so need to get outside some today.

Hope you and yours are well -

Spending another day hibernating - it is just too cold out. Right now is 18 degrees - or -7 in your language!

Had planned to go to my daughter's but she has bronchitis - really sick with it. Just talked to her and she is making more chicken noodle soup - and then will be wrapped up in her recliner and crocheting on a throw she started long time ago. (Will post a picture later on my page.)

Yesterday I made more popcorn balls for Geoff - had made some for Christmas, but left them at Kathi's and Geoff said he did not get his share. So now he has some of his own. And baked some Pumpkin Cookies with the pumpkin i had left.

Now am just doing some knitting and wandering around the internet. Hope you are having - or perhaps i should say - have had a good day.

Just stopped by to say Good Morning! Looks like it snowed a bit during the night - and is a bit chilly this morning.

Will do a bit of laundry this morning and then plan to meet with fellow knitters this afternoon.

We did have a good Christmas day at Kathi's - just had dinner, opened a few gifts and played a couple of games. Then on Sat. I just lounged all day -

So good to hear from you - I have not been on SparkPeople very much the past few weeks - but think of you often and pray you and yours are well.

Our Christmas will be small this year - going to my daughter's for dinner and a quiet afternoon. We have decided not to do a gift exchange (but I did pick up a few small things for my granddaughters). Kathi is working long hours mostly in Washington - so she is on the road a lot. Today she is working until 6 and probably will not be home until after 8. Her husband will be doing most of the cooking for tomorrow - and i will be taking most of the desserts. Have baked cookies, made popcorn balls and will be fixing a pumpkin roll. So we will have plenty to eat - and then some.

I have been knitting bunches and plan to do some beading after the first of the year. Got a book with bracelet patterns that look fun. Kathi and I both love bracelets. And would like to do a bit of quilting. Will see how that goes.

I pray you and your family have a very Blessed Christmas.
