Hi I'm Martha-Ann.
I WILL endeavour to reach the goal I've set myself.
I CAN do it.
I want to be healthier and eat better.
I've had a few health problems, still a couple left, but I've beaten cancer and now I'm just getting on with life.

I love SparkPeople.
It has everything I could ask for.
Good advice, great ideas but most of all friendship.
The people I've met through this site are wonderful and are helping me towards a better, healthier way of life.
THANKYOU.

This is a Sanskrit proverb by the fifth century poet Kalidasa, it seems to sum things up perfectly.

Salutation to the Dawn.

Listen to the salutation of the dawn!
Look to this day,
For it is life,
The very life of life.
In its brief course lie all
The realities and verities of existence.

The bliss of growth,
The splendour of action,
The glory of power...

For yesterday is but a dream,
And tomorrow is only a vision.
But today, well lived,
Makes every yesterday a dream of happiness,
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Look well, therefore, to this day.
Such is the salutation of the dawn!

My Goals:
I want to feel more confident about myself.

I want to be as fit and healthy as I can.

I want to live to see my grandchildren (and possibly their children) grow up and be healthy and fit enough to enjoy them.

I want to work on small goals of 10lbs and give myself a small reward everytime I hit one.

I want to see a 'new' me!!

My Program:
Daily exercising, going for long walks, gardening.

Eating healthily.
It is not a diet, it's a healthy eating programme.
It's a way of life and it's going to be MY way of life for the rest of MY life!

Personal Information:
I'm from Yorkshire, England...we call it 'God's Own Country'.

I live in a small village in the country but am only a few miles from the sea so I have the best of both worlds.

I'm 66 years young.

My DH and I have been happily married for 44 years.

I'm a wife, mother, grandma, nana, niece, cousin, aunt and great aunt.

I'm retired from primary education, l had to take early retirement due to illness and after a long struggle l'm now cancer free and back to being part of my community again.
I decided to lose weight and get healthy and am now working towards that goal.
l've been diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica which is a bit of a challenge but l will conquer it.

Other Information:
My hobbies are very varied, everything from puzzles to zentangles, reading to gardening, walking to birdwatching, writing to photography.
I love language too, the nuances and foibles, so I enjoy dabbling with writing and poetry...my son once called me a wordsmith...I wish I lived up to it!

Thanks so much for the picture and for the patterns - very helpful.
I will check with our local Hospice and see if they could use some. We have a couple of quilters in our knitting group that I know would be interested in making a few.

Haven't heard from you in a while and missed you. Remembered you went on holiday so I came looking at your blogs to make sure you're ok, just busy. Glad to see you are. You blogs were terrific as always. Glad you enjoyed yourself.

They make mats and icing that when baked become edible lace. It makes beautiful lace that can be cut and molded. The one I'm familiar with is sugar veil. It's expensive, but I think it is worth it. I recently bought some and I'm looking forward to playing with it.

Well, am over my "pitty-party" and feeling much better. Except that it is much cooler in the mornings - but it does warm up later.

Meeting other knitters this morning at the Cookie Tree and that is always a treat. They bake their own breads and muffins and cinnamon rolls - so very good. I usually have toast and bring home a couple of muffins for Geoff.

Not sure what I will be doing this weekend - but something. I may go to the cemetery and visit Greg's grave. Have not been in a while. It is such a pretty setting.

Hope you have a great weekend.
    Always,
