Hi I'm Martha-Ann.
I WILL endeavour to reach the goal I've set myself.
I CAN do it.
I want to be healthier and eat better.
I've had a few health problems, still a couple left, but I've beaten cancer and now I'm just getting on with life.

I love SparkPeople.
It has everything I could ask for.
Good advice, great ideas but most of all friendship.
The people I've met through this site are wonderful and are helping me towards a better, healthier way of life.

This is a Sanskrit proverb by the fifth century poet Kalidasa, it seems to sum things up perfectly.

Salutation to the Dawn.

Listen to the Salutation of the Dawn!
Look to this day,
For it is life,
The very life of life.
In its brief course lie all
The realities and verities of existence.

The bliss of growth,
The splendour of action,
The glory of power...

For yesterday is but a dream,
And tomorrow is only a vision.
But today, well lived,
Makes every yesterday a dream of happiness,
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Look well, therefore, to this day.
Such is the salutation of the dawn!

My Goals:
I want to feel more confident about myself.

I want to be as fit and healthy as I can.

I want to live to see my grandchildren (and possibly their children) grow up and be healthy and fit enough to enjoy them.

I want to work on small goals of 10lbs and give myself a small reward everytime I hit one.

I want to see a 'new' me!!

My Program:
Daily exercising, going for long walks, gardening.

Eating healthily.
It is not a diet, it's a healthy eating programme.
It's a way of life and it's going to be MY way of life for the rest of MY life!

Personal Information:
I'm from Yorkshire, England...we call it 'God's Own Country'.

I live in a small village in the country but am only a few miles from the sea so I have the best of both worlds.

I'm 69 years young.

My DH and I have been happily married for 45 years.

I'm a wife, mother, grandma, nana, niece, cousin, aunt and great aunt.

I'm retired from primary education, l had to take early retirement due to illness and after a long struggle l'm now cancer free and back to being part of my community again.
I decided to lose weight and get healthy and am now working towards that goal.
l've been diagnosed with spondylolisthesis and spinal stenosis (arthritis of the spine) which is a bit of a challenge but l will conquer it.
l also have Morton's neuroma and together these three make walking and standing difficult but l persevere and don't let them totally wreck everything!

Other Information:
My hobbies are very varied, everything from puzzles to zentangles, reading to gardening, walking to birdwatching, writing to photography.
I love language too, the nuances and foibles, so I enjoy dabbling with writing and son once called me a wordsmith...I wish I lived up to it!

Just saw your pictures on flickr - beautiful!! Where were they taken??
My Geoff really enjoys your pictures too.

Gordon has visited from Seattle again this weekend - have had some fun times. Daughter Kathi came over Sat evening. Was great watching her and the two "boys' catch up. They have always been quite close. Then yesterday we went to Kathi's for tacos - then to Dairy Queen for ice cream. And this morning Gordon is going back home. Miss him already - so fun having him here.

Pray you and your family are having a good weekend.

Sorry I have not been around for a while. My youngest was here for a few days - studying for an exam. He had been studying making dentures. Has been doing it for a number of years, but has gone to school to learn more and get his license. He had to written and just yesterday had the practical. Will not know the results until next week - but is feeling good about the test. So I have been focused on him and have not been here very often. Jest enough to check in.

Am doing well - not loosing any weight, but my BP is steady and am walking much better - not hurting so much. And the swelling in my legs is going down.

Hope you are feeling better and able to walk more. I do know how much you and your husband enjoy your walks. And I so enjoy the pictures you take.

    Have a good day.

Love the sunflowers - we have some in front of our apartment building. They are not doing as well this year - and I thought they loved the heat.

Enjoy you tapestry group today - I know what you mean about all the visiting that gets done. Elaine and I are that way Tuesday mornings - we meet for Bible study and half the time do not get to it. We always seem to have so much to catch up on. Like now, her son is getting ready to move home from Portland so she and her husband are clearing out the second bedroom for him.

A bit cooler this morning - we do not even have the A/C on - we have been running it quite a bit this past week.

Gordon, my youngest is coming for a few days. He will be studying for a final exam - for his license to make dentures. He has been doing this for a number of years in dental labs, but has wanted to get his license so he can perhaps open his own lab.

I have been knitting baby sweaters and caps. Just found a pattern for some cute booties so will try a pair of them too.

Have a good day and do enjoy your outing.

Glad you have been out some - i have been mostly in the past couple of days doing some cleaning. Have defrosted the freezer and cleaned out the fridge. Also some extra laundry - the quilts from my bed and all our towels.

It has really warmed up here - so our A/C has been going - also picked up a new fan for the hallway. I do not mind the heat - but my son does not tolerate very well. He is already wanting Winter to come!!

Just finished knitting a couple of baby sweaters - one for a shower tomorrow and the other for the gal in our church office. She is not due until October, but wanted to get it done for her.

We had a quiet 4th of July - Gordon left for Seattle about 10 a.m. so Geoff and I just watched a couple of movies and napped.

We had a few thunder storms last month - but I think they are passed for now, anyway. I love watching the lightening.

    Have a good weekend,.
