Hi I'm Martha-Ann.
I WILL endeavour to reach the goal I've set myself.
I CAN do it.
I want to be healthier and eat better.
I've had a few health problems, still a couple left, but I've beaten cancer and now I'm just getting on with life.

I love SparkPeople.
It has everything I could ask for.
Good advice, great ideas but most of all friendship.
The people I've met through this site are wonderful and are helping me towards a better, healthier way of life.

This is a Sanskrit proverb by the fifth century poet Kalidasa, it seems to sum things up perfectly.

Salutation to the Dawn.

Listen to the Salutation of the Dawn!
Look to this day,
For it is life,
The very life of life.
In its brief course lie all
The realities and verities of existence.

The bliss of growth,
The splendour of action,
The glory of power...

For yesterday is but a dream,
And tomorrow is only a vision.
But today, well lived,
Makes every yesterday a dream of happiness,
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Look well, therefore, to this day.
Such is the salutation of the dawn!

My Goals:
I want to feel more confident about myself.

I want to be as fit and healthy as I can.

I want to live to see my grandchildren (and possibly their children) grow up and be healthy and fit enough to enjoy them.

I want to work on small goals of 10lbs and give myself a small reward everytime I hit one.

I want to see a 'new' me!!

My Program:
Daily exercising, going for long walks, gardening.

Eating healthily.
It is not a diet, it's a healthy eating programme.
It's a way of life and it's going to be MY way of life for the rest of MY life!

Personal Information:
I'm from Yorkshire, England...we call it 'God's Own Country'.

I live in a small village in the country but am only a few miles from the sea so I have the best of both worlds.

I'm 69 years young.

My DH and I have been happily married for 45 years.

I'm a wife, mother, grandma, nana, niece, cousin, aunt and great aunt.

I'm retired from primary education, l had to take early retirement due to illness and after a long struggle l'm now cancer free and back to being part of my community again.
I decided to lose weight and get healthy and am now working towards that goal.
l've been diagnosed with spondylolisthesis and spinal stenosis (arthritis of the spine) which is a bit of a challenge but l will conquer it.
l also have Morton's neuroma and together these three make walking and standing difficult but l persevere and don't let them totally wreck everything!

Other Information:
My hobbies are very varied, everything from puzzles to zentangles, reading to gardening, walking to birdwatching, writing to photography.
I love language too, the nuances and foibles, so I enjoy dabbling with writing and son once called me a wordsmith...I wish I lived up to it!

Just looked at your picture of the poppies. Love it!!
We have lots of poppies blooming in our neighborhood this year. Am going to get some an plant in my flower beds. Love the bright yellow colors.

Had a call from my youngest, Gordon, and he is planning to come over for the 4th. He lives in the Seattle area. He was here last month - so fun when he visits.

It is warming up here - predicted to be in the 90s - so son, Geoff, will be fussing - he does not do well in the heat. But, I will enjoy it.

    Have a great day!

We had another thunder storm yesterday - quite the show with all the lightening. And then the skies were just aflame in the evening. I had planted some wave petunias , and now they are looking rather bedraggled - but am sure they will survive.

We have cooled down into the 60s for the weekend - so got a couple of sweatshirts back out. And looks like we may have more rain. But that is good - for now. No plans for the weekend - so am going to look for some new recipes to fix.

Oh, there comes the sun - so hope i can get out and do a bit of weeding. Have one more spot that needs to be cleaned out - to i can put in more flowers. Not sure what to plant there.

    Have a good weekend.

I haven't seen bats here for a long time. There are a lot around the Air Force Plant not far from us.

Just looked at your new pictures on - so good. Son, Geoff, always enjoys your pictures too.

My youngest, Gordon, has come from the Seattle area for the weekend. Last Sunday was his birthday and tomorrow is Geoff's. So today we are meeting their Dad for lunch at the local Japanese restaurant. Will be a good time.

It is warming up here - into the high 80s. Gotta get more flowers to put out. And really need to do some watering.

    Have a good weekend.
