Hi I'm Martha-Ann.
I WILL endeavour to reach the goal I've set myself.
I CAN do it.
I want to be healthier and eat better.
I've had a few health problems, still a couple left, but I've beaten cancer and now I'm just getting on with life.

I love SparkPeople.
It has everything I could ask for.
Good advice, great ideas but most of all friendship.
The people I've met through this site are wonderful and are helping me towards a better, healthier way of life.
THANKYOU.

This is a Sanskrit proverb by the fifth century poet Kalidasa, it seems to sum things up perfectly.

Salutation to the Dawn.

Listen to the Salutation of the Dawn!
Look to this day,
For it is life,
The very life of life.
In its brief course lie all
The realities and verities of existence.

The bliss of growth,
The splendour of action,
The glory of power...

For yesterday is but a dream,
And tomorrow is only a vision.
But today, well lived,
Makes every yesterday a dream of happiness,
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Look well, therefore, to this day.
Such is the salutation of the dawn!

My Goals:
I want to feel more confident about myself.

I want to be as fit and healthy as I can.

I want to live to see my grandchildren (and possibly their children) grow up and be healthy and fit enough to enjoy them.

I want to work on small goals of 10lbs and give myself a small reward everytime I hit one.

I want to see a 'new' me!!

My Program:
Daily exercising, going for long walks, gardening.

Eating healthily.
It is not a diet, it's a healthy eating programme.
It's a way of life and it's going to be MY way of life for the rest of MY life!

Personal Information:
I'm from Yorkshire, England...we call it 'God's Own Country'.

I live in a small village in the country but am only a few miles from the sea so I have the best of both worlds.

I'm 66 years young.

My DH and I have been happily married for 44 years.

I'm a wife, mother, grandma, nana, niece, cousin, aunt and great aunt.

I'm retired from primary education, l had to take early retirement due to illness and after a long struggle l'm now cancer free and back to being part of my community again.
I decided to lose weight and get healthy and am now working towards that goal.
l've been diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica which is a bit of a challenge but l will conquer it.

Other Information:
My hobbies are very varied, everything from puzzles to zentangles, reading to gardening, walking to birdwatching, writing to photography.
I love language too, the nuances and foibles, so I enjoy dabbling with writing and poetry...my son once called me a wordsmith...I wish I lived up to it!

Just stopped by to see how you are doing. Am thinking the rains have passed - sure hope so - am so ready for summer.

Met Marilyn this morning - visited and knit together. Then this afternoon mowed a bit out back. I have a small push mower and a very small yard. But the mower is quite dull - thinking about having it sharpened but not sure it would be worth it. The manager here does mow - but not as often as i would like.

Now gonna get out front and do some weeding - getting ready to plant probably after Mother's Day - will see what the weather does.

Pray you and your family are will - and enjoying some good weather.

Love the pictures you posted on llickr - especially the sunflower - and all the ducks.
I need to get my camera out and take some pictures - they won't be as good as yours, but, they will be mine. And it will get me out for a walk.

It is quiet here this morning - Geoff is still asleep and I will be listening on line to a pastor in the Portland area. They live-stream their Sunday morning services. Have not gone to my own church for a while - not sure why - but just haven't. Really need to start going again.

Am knitting a shawl for myself for next winter - and am having such fun with it. Will post a picture when I get my camera out and recharged. Am sure it will need to be recharged.

    Have a great day -

    Oh, Martha,
Thank you for the Easter Basket - have not had one in a very long time.

Today met a friend to knit a bit and catch up. Then went to Safeway for a few groceries and picked up some carnations. They were my Mom's favorite - so will enjoy them.

No plans for Easter - will probably just be at home with son, Geoff. Not sure what my daughter and her family will do - but we are not planning to get together.

It is still quite cool here - still in the 50s - but I am so looking forward to warmer weather so I can plan in the dirt.

Hope you are better - you have certainly had your share of sickness. And, do have a very blessed Easter.

So sorry about you backache. I have a leg muscle that gives me fits occasionally - I think I just do not get enough potassium in my diet - even taking extra in pills. I have just a hard time taking my meds - seem to forget half the time - even tho they are right here by my computer.

It has been quite windy here the past few days - mostly clear so cooler at night. Even frosted a couple of times.

I have been getting out more - doing a bit each day in the yard. Will be so glad when it is warm enough to play in the dirt. Right now there are lots of daffodils and tulips in bloom - so pretty. I need to check out your pictures on flickr - I do so enjoy looking at them.

Pray you are feeling better soon.
    Love,

I too am staying on track - well, mostly. My goal for now is to get over 1000 steps a day - except that my pedometer does not record them very well. Would like to get a new one, but not sure what to get.

Will be meeting a couple of friends this morning to catch up and do a bit of knitting - then some errands.

Our local library has a challenge going this month with another library to read the most pages. So will turn in mine today. I actually do not read very much - but just fininsed a second book for the contest. So do want my pages to count.

Hope you are having a good day!!
