MARTHA-ANN is a SparkPeople Motivator!
Hi I'm Martha-Ann.
I WILL endeavour to reach the goal I've set myself.
I CAN do it.
I want to be healthier and eat better.
I've had a few health problems, still a couple left, but I've beaten cancer and now I'm just getting on with life.
I love SparkPeople.
It has everything I could ask for.
Good advice, great ideas but most of all friendship.
The people I've met through this site are wonderful and are helping me towards a better, healthier way of life.
This is a Sanskrit proverb by the fifth century poet Kalidasa, it seems to sum things up perfectly.
Salutation to the Dawn.
Listen to the Salutation of the Dawn!
Look to this day,
For it is life,
The very life of life.
In its brief course lie all
The realities and verities of existence.
The bliss of growth,
The splendour of action,
The glory of power...
For yesterday is but a dream,
And tomorrow is only a vision.
But today, well lived,
Makes every yesterday a dream of happiness,
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well, therefore, to this day.
Such is the salutation of the dawn!
I want to feel more confident about myself.
I want to be as fit and healthy as I can.
I want to live to see my grandchildren (and possibly their children) grow up and be healthy and fit enough to enjoy them.
I want to work on small goals of 10lbs and give myself a small reward everytime I hit one.
I want to see a 'new' me!!
Daily exercising, going for long walks, gardening.
It is not a diet, it's a healthy eating programme.
It's a way of life and it's going to be MY way of life for the rest of MY life!
I'm from Yorkshire, England...we call it 'God's Own Country'.
I live in a small village in the country but am only a few miles from the sea so I have the best of both worlds.
I'm 66 years young.
My DH and I have been happily married for 44 years.
I'm a wife, mother, grandma, nana, niece, cousin, aunt and great aunt.
I'm retired from primary education, l had to take early retirement due to illness and after a long struggle l'm now cancer free and back to being part of my community again.
I decided to lose weight and get healthy and am now working towards that goal.
l've been diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica which is a bit of a challenge but l will conquer it.
My hobbies are very varied, everything from puzzles to zentangles, reading to gardening, walking to birdwatching, writing to photography.
I love language too, the nuances and foibles, so I enjoy dabbling with writing and poetry...my son once called me a wordsmith...I wish I lived up to it!

Secrets of Success

It is overcast here this morning and they are predicting about 3 or 4 inches of snow in the next couple of days. :( And you know how I feel about the snow. Had so hoped we had seen the last of it for this year.
So, am going to the grocery store to stock up again - so I can "hibernate". Am sewing on Geoff's quilt - so will be busy. Will post some pictures when I get it better organized. He wants it loooong - to cover his feet when he turns in bed.
No knitting projects right now - just finished a pair of slippers for the Warming Station. It is open nights for the homeless when the temp drops below freezing. And knit socks for Geoff and a pair for Norris, my son-in-law, who lives in Salem. Don't get to see them much since it is about 250 miles from here.
This afternoon will be meeting with fellow knitters - always a fun time.
Glad you are having some sunshine today!!

Good Morning, Miss Sunshine,
I was up early too - but I went to bed earlier than usual.
Had a good day yesterday - met Elaine at the DoNut Shop for a catch-up.
The shop had been closed for the past 5 weeks. The owners are a couple from Thailand and they had gone home for a visit. Was good to have them back - they are such a sweet couple.
Then to the grocery store for a few things. It was good to be out and about!!
Today am going to the fabric store to pick up more material - am making a quilt for son, Geoff. Still in the planning stage - but am making some headway - finally. Having fun with it! Part of the material is Christmas theme and the back will be mostly kitty cats!
Well, better get some breakfast. Have a good day!

Well, our snow is almost gone - we had a couple of days with a warm breeze - so nice!
There are still a few patches of snow but it will soon be gone too.
Will be meeting with fellow knitters this afternoon - have not seen them for too long - will be fun. Also, to BiMart to pick up my meds and to WalMart for a few groceries.
Saturday I baked a German chocolate cake - and it is already almost gone - and it is just Geoff and me here. But, we do not have sweets very often - and this is one of our favorites. Geoff likes bagels so am going to try my hand at making some. Doesn't sound too complicated.
Hope it is warming up and you are doing better.

We are keeping warm, too. Says we are at 5 degrees now. Still have lots of snow - will post a couple of pictures later. And if it stays cold, this snow will be with us for a while. A friend was stuck in Tri-Cities (about 90 miles from here) for a couple of days because of a pile-up on the freeway.
Have been doing some baking and sewing. Have started a quilt for Geoff - now waiting for some material I ordered.
So glad you have been able to get out with friends - I think I am getting "cabin fever". Have talked to my friends but sure miss our times together. Will be so glad when Elaine and I can resume our chats and Bible study. Our DoNut Shop is closed for about 5 weeks - the owner is from Thailand and he and his wife have gone for a visit. Will be glad when they return.
