A 'new' me.

Hi I'm Martha-Ann.
I WILL endeavour to reach the goal I've set myself.
I CAN do it.
I want to be healthier and eat better.
I've had a few health problems but I've beaten cancer and now I'm just getting on with life.

I love SparkPeople.
It has everything I could ask for.
Good advice, great ideas but most of all friendship.
The people I've met through this site are wonderful and are helping me towards a better, healthier way of life.

THANKYOU.

This is a Sanskrit proverb by the fifth century poet Kalidasa, it seems to sum things up perfectly.

Salutation to the Dawn.

Listen to the salutation of the dawn!
Look to this day,
For it is life,
The very life of life.
In its brief course lie all
The realities and verities of existence.

The bliss of growth,
The splendour of action,
The glory of power...

For yesterday is but a dream,
And tomorrow is only a vision.
But today, well lived,
Makes every yesterday a dream of happiness,
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Look well, therefore, to this day.
Such is the salutation of the dawn!

My Goals:
I want to feel more confident about myself.

I want to be as fit and healthy as I can.

I want to live to see my grandchildren (and possibly their children) grow up and be healthy and fit enough to enjoy them.

I want to work on small goals of 10lbs and give myself a small reward everytime I hit one.

I want to see a 'new' me!!

My Program:
Daily exercising, going for long walks, gardening.

Eating healthily.
It is not a diet, it's a healthy eating programme.
It's a way of life and it's going to be MY way of life for the rest of MY life!

Personal Information:
I'm from Yorkshire, England...we call it 'God's Own Country'.

My DH and I have been happily married for 43 years.

Other Information:
My hobbies are very varied, everything from puzzles to zentangles, reading to gardening, walking to birdwatching, writing to photography.

Just a quick note to let you know that my Sister died Friday morning. Will miss her so!

My Son, Gordon, came over from Vancouver yesterday (about 200 miles) but will have to go back this afternoon. We did go out to dinner last night with family and will go to church this morning. Then we will all go for breakfast before he heads home.

Thank you so much for all your thoughts thru the time that we have been in touch. Your notes have meant so much to me!!

Love,
barb

Am not familiar with beetroot soup - but looked it up and it sounds yummy.

We are having another cold spell - below freezing. We did have a spattering of snow but it is almost gone. It is predicted for today and then should warm up over the weekend.

I had a phone call yesterday and my Sister is quickly reaching the end. She is having 24/7 care and is now bedridden and semi-conscious. I have not talked to her in over a week - she is just too weak to talk. So am expecting a call any time.

But I know God is in control - and loves her more than we can even imagine. So I can just give her back to Him!! And know that we will see her again soon.

I love all your snowflakes. I just made one with typing paper - found the pattern on pinerest.com. Am going to make another and hang in our dining room window. May even take a picture.

Not sure what we will be doing for
Christmas this year - did not do anything last year as we were losing my Son. But i am getting out all our decorations and going thru them - and plan to put most of them out. Now just need to pull them out of the closet.

Love always,
barb

I haven''t stopped by for a while - hope you and yours are doing well.

Got up this morning to a light blanket of snow and 9 degrees. So it is really cold but beautiful outside.

Geoff and i had a quiet Thanksgiving - just the two of us. We had the usual spread - turkey, dressing, gravy and pumpkin pie. And we watched more of our series - Blue Blood. So it was a good day.

My Sister now is having some help from Hospice and they are getting her a Medi Alert, She has failen a couple of times during the night and has not been able to get up. I am so thankful that her friend, Tom, lives in the same apartment complex and she can call him. It is just hard being this far from her.

But God is good and i know that He is watching over her.

Hope you are having a good day. Not sure what i will be doing -

Love,
barb
