A 'new' me.

Hi I'm Martha-Ann.
I WILL endeavour to reach the goal I've set myself.
I CAN do it.
I want to be healthier and eat better.
I've had a few health problems but I've beaten cancer and now I'm just getting on with life.

I love SparkPeople.
It has everything I could ask for.
Good advice, great ideas but most of all friendship.
The people I've met through this site are wonderful and are helping me towards a better, healthier way of life.

THANKYOU.

This is a Sanskrit proverb by the fifth century poet Kalidasa, it seems to sum things up perfectly.

Salutation to the Dawn.

Listen to the salutation of the dawn!
Look to this day,
For it is life,
The very life of life.
In its brief course lie all
The realities and verities of existence.

The bliss of growth,
The splendour of action,
The glory of power...

For yesterday is but a dream,
And tomorrow is only a vision.
But today, well lived,
Makes every yesterday a dream of happiness,
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Look well, therefore, to this day.
Such is the salutation of the dawn!

My Goals:
I want to feel more confident about myself.

I want to be as fit and healthy as I can.

I want to live to see my grandchildren (and possibly their children) grow up and be healthy and fit enough to enjoy them.

I want to work on small goals of 10lbs and give myself a small reward everytime I hit one.

I want to see a 'new' me!!

My Program:
Daily exercising, going for long walks, gardening.

Eating healthily.
It is not a diet, it's a healthy eating programme.
It's a way of life and it's going to be MY way of life for the rest of MY life!

Personal Information:
I'm from Yorkshire, England...we call it 'God's Own Country'.

I live in a small village in the country but am only a few miles from the sea so I have the best of both worlds.

I'm 66 years young.

My DH and I have been happily married for 43 years.

I'm a wife, mother, grandma, nana, niece, cousin, aunt and great aunt.

I'm retired from primary education, l had to take early retirement due to illness and after a long struggle l'm now cancer free and back to being part of my community again.
I decided to lose weight and get healthy and am now working towards that goal.

Other Information:
My hobbies are very varied, everything from puzzles to zentangles, reading to gardening, walking to birdwatching, writing to photography.
I love language too, the nuances and foibles, so I enjoy dabbling with writing and poetry...my son once called me a wordsmith...I wish I lived up to it!

So glad you are doing better - and pray your sight continues to improve.
And hope the meeds help too.

My daughter has done amazing - besides losing weight, she is beginning to heal some of the hurts between her and her father. They have a long history!!! - and it is good to see them renewing their relationship. And i think this is helping her relationship with her daughters.

Well, going to the church this morning to meet with Elaine - and then a bit of shopping. Tomorrow is my son's birthday - Geoff, the one who lives with me. He has quite a collection of cups and ma going to get him yet another. And got him one of those little "hot plates" for the cup on his desk.

Have a Terrific Thursday!

Had a good morning - was going to meet Elaine at the church, but got a call from my daughter and she was at home - so went over to her house.

In February she decided it was time to get her weight under control - and she has done amazing. She started the Atkins diet and has stuck faithfully to it - has lost about 30 pounds.
She also bought (at a moving sale) a treadmill and a stationary bike - and has faithfully exercised every day. She has set her goal and has not deviated!! I tried out the treadmill and it is really a nice one - so may drop the 24 Hour Club and go over to her house. She keeps telling me to -

This afternoon i put out a few plants that I picked up yesterday. Now am "pooped" so am going to knit some and watch more of my series on netflix.com. Then later need to get out and water a bit more.

I think it is the middle of your night - so hope you are having a good sleep.
Hugs,
barb

Oh, where has this month gone??? Have really not accomplished much - but have been taking my meds every day and have been exercising - well, some - every day. My goal for the month was to just do some every day. And that i have done for the past 32 days. Now need to ramp it up a bit.

We had a few warmer days, but it has cooled down some - and yesterday we had a thundershower - and it really rained for a bit. Now is nice and cool this morning.

Am getting ready to meed with fellow knitters this morning and then errands this afternoon. Yesterday was my youngest's birthday - he is now 46. Did not talk to him - so want to see if we can connect this evening.

Glad you are feeling chipper today! I too am feeling better.

Hugs,
barb

Good Morning Martha-Ann, I had to laugh at your comment. Yes - for us a yard is the grassy area around the house. What you call a yard is a patio to us...lol I noticed some of the terminology we use has different meanings. For the most part though there's not a lot of difference.

Hope you have a wonderful day.
