Hello!

Do you Zoom?

I zoom on Zoom whole wheat cereal and my bicycles and my skis and my feet.

Act I goals were to burn off 30, then 40, then 50 pounds by October, August, then July 2010. The stages for Act I were my two bicycles,Red Rollin' Rollie Awesome, a hybrid, and Felt Up, a carbon-fiber road bike. My heart sings on a bicycle.

After burning off 60 pounds and developing confidence in my physical abilities I was ready for Act II. The stage for Act II was the Alaska Pacific University pool - learning to swim and participate in the 2011 Gold Nugget Triathlon in Anchorage.

After burning off 90 pounds the weight goals became less relevant in relation to my physical activity and experiences. I was ready for Act III in January 2011. The stage for Act III has been ALASKA! I regularly go hiking, biking, camping, hashing, running, swimming, skiing. I eat to fuel, not eat to comfort or control.

As of my third anniversary with SparkPeople I have maintained a 90-pound weight loss within a 10-pound range for over a year, since a March 2011 annual physical.

I am doing what I set out to do. There is no closing act.

My Goals:
Act II goals are about fueling myself well, increasing my endurance, burning off 50 pounds by May 2011, and learning to swim so I can participate in the 2011 Gold Nugget Triathlon in Anchorage.

Act II was short-lived. I need to eat more.

Act III commenced on January 7, 2011. Maintenance Mode!

And still acting up!

My Program:
I track calories consumed every day, and spend 5 or 6 hours in moderate to intense physical activity every week. I hike, bike, run, ski, swim, and stay active and social. My best tools so far are my kitchen scale, measuring cups, freezer containers, Planet Fitness, my bicycles ROLLIE AWESOME and FELT UP, my swim goggles, my right and left skis, my running shoes, my iPod Nano, and my iPhone.

Personal Information:
I have claws, spines, and sharp, pointy teeth. I like Scotch.

I used to hate having my head under water. I started swimming lessons in September 2010.

I hated running. I started jogging in October 2010. I ran my first 10K in October 2011.

I wanted to ski. I learned how to classic cross-country ski in December 2011.

Other Information:
APPLEPIEDREAMS is a good friend who shared her spark with me and motivated me to join SparkPeople. You just try and catch her.

ASPENGRRL is my co-worker and friend who motivates me to keep on track at work and go home at a decent hour instead of staying at my desk.

NO_COOKIES is my sister who taught me about America's Test Kitchen and step aerobics. I taught her about Skinny Raven.

Thanks Marta for that beautiful Flower Goodie and those precious thoughts extended to us concerning the passing of my mother-in-law. Cheryl is doing well as is her sisters and brothers.

We are so amazed as she passed on into eternal life in the midst of Perfect Peace. It was quite a moment. We rejoice as well that we were able to be with her at that moment and hold her as she went.

We sorrow in her loss, but rejoice in Heaven's Gain of one super lady!

Dennis

I'm biting the bullet and buckling down about getting fit. The final straw was discovering that my friend who has always been large is not only dropping weight at an amazing rate (over 30 pounds so far this year!) but is rapidly closing in on my current weight. I'm a little ashamed to admit it, but the thought of becoming "the heavy one" in my circle of friends is a better motivator for me than anything else I've found so far. So, I'm going to embrace the motivation and still rejoice in her accomplishments. I'm a Gemini, I can do two seemingly-contradictory things with no problem. *grin* So excited to finally find your page - and the timing is perfect. I'm doing a dance class that is a lot of work, and have to make sure I keep up with my daily homework. Your spunk always made me smile at Drake, and your persistence and determination in your own weight loss/fitness journey is absolutely inspiring, so I figure it makes sense to grab onto you as a help to get going and still smile on this project. Wish me luck!

I signed up for swimming lessons yesterday. I start on Tuesday. I was in there and started panicking about stupid stuff, like where do I get a swim cap, how do I get it on, how do I know what goggles to choose, what if these horrible bruise on my leg doesn't go away and people think I'm in an abusive relationship, what if everyone is better than me and on and on and on.

I told myself to "just be more like Marta." The instructor was the one signing us up, so I introduced myself and shook her hand and smiled and asked her all my questions about goggles and swim caps because I figured that's what Marta would do in a similar situation.

I'm completely serious about this too. What would Marta do? was honestly the question I kept asking myself.
