I'm a life-long KS resident, as is my wonderful wife of 7 years (she's the one who turned me on to SP). I work in IT, so I am parked on my butt most of the day. It can also be very stressful at times and often involves working late hours. For me that means I really have to watch my diet be determined to get a workout in either before or after work, even if I'm wiped out.
In 2008 I decided to make a lot of changes. No more running off and on just as a way to stay in shape. I'm running because I love it now and I have set all kinds of new goals to reflect that fact. I ran one 5K in 2007, and in 2008 I completed my first duathlon and 1/2 marathon, along with setting PRs in both of the 5Ks that I ran. 2009 will bring my first full marathon and hopefully a much fuller race schedule! I'll try to share my entire training schedule on a weekly basis along the way.
Update (4/11/09) - I'm a marathoner!!! Woohoo!!
THINGS I LIKE TO SAY....
For me, every race is the only race.
Life is like an marathon. It seems so very long at the start. You focus on the highs and lows and live in the moment as you go along. And when you look back at the end, you wonder where the time went.
At this point in my life I am reasonably healthy, but I want to make changes to take it to the next level. My goal is to go from healthy to very fit and lean; and to go from casual athelete to serious competitor.
Race Goals (x = completed!):
x 5K under 19 min. - 10/4/08, 18:37, 1st in age group, 5th overall!
x 5K under 18 min. - 9/19/09, 17:54, 1st in AG, 5th overall
x Complete Duathlon - 8/24/08, first in age group!
x Complete 1/2 marathon - 10/18/08, 87th out of 3492!
x Complete 1/2 marathon under 1:30:00 - 10/17/09, 1:28:50, 48th OA
x Complete Full Marathon - 4/11/09, 3:09:47, 3rd in age group!
I currently run and bike for the vast majority of my cardio. I have run off and on since running cross country in high school, but until recently my distance typically never exceeded 5 miles or so.
Starting in November '09 I started the P90X program as well. It's going to be a really difficult 90 days of intense workouts plus marathon training. Hopefully it produces some results!!

I was having a tough time with my training but it is seeming to come together this week. I am running a half marathon in Chicago on Halloween. I am going up with a group of girls and we are dressing up. It should be a fun run mixed with training. My big race is a marathon on Dec 5th in Sacramento, CA.

I registered for 30K race Aug 21
Ive never run past 1/2 M distance Am I asking for trouble?
since many runners dont run full distance before race
last Sunday 16K, Sunday before 1/2 marathon Chicago RnR, this Sunday What distance should I run? my last long run before my first 30K?

I work out like this because I am nuts. AND because I want to know how good I can be. I am not really sure... How is your training going? How the little guy?

I also don't have a little guy at home! I have a big husband that feels neglected some times though!
