My weight loss journey has been up and down. I lost 25 pounds, only to gain it all back and then some while pregnant. My daughter is now over a year old and I'm still carrying some baby weight and need to do something about it!

The motto of one of my favourite graphic novels, Yotsuba&!, is "enjoy everything!" and I am trying to embrace that saying as a way of life. Enjoy the beauty of the small moments in life, and look for the bit of cheerfulness on a gloomy day.

--------------------------------
My weightloss story:

While doing my undergraduate degree, I put on about 20 to 25 pounds because I wasn't eating as healthy as I should have been. Long days of classes, commuting and homework (lots of reading and essays) meant eating whatever was quick and convenient and often unhealthy. I also started to work part-time at a chocolate & ice cream store, and that didn't help anything.

My weight raised until it was high enough to put me into the overweight BMI category, and because I carry my weight in my breasts and stomach, I started having people ask me if I was pregnant and when I was due! For me, this was a wake-up call that I needed to get myself on track.

When I graduated from university, I moved out of my mom's house to live with my fiance (now husband), and started my weightloss journey. Living in a house of my own meant buying my own groceries, which was exactly the step I needed to eat better! I started tracking calories to get an idea of what portions I should be eating, and I also tried to include more fibre and fruit and vegetables in my diet. In terms of exercise, I try to do some cardio every day, even if it's just walking, and strength training 2 or 3 times a week.

It's now been about a year and a half of eating better and exercising. In February 2009 I reached my goal, and maintained until my pregnancy in 2011.

After my daughter was born, I weighed in at 145lbs. I've worked my way back down to about 136lbs, but still have 10-15 to lose to get back to my ideal weight!
