SUMMER 5% CHALLENGE.

I am glad to be part of the Summer 5% Challenge. I know that these challenges keep me "on track" toward building a happier, healthier life.

I am reading a book right now called, "The Diet Fix: Why Diets Don't Work" by Dr. Yoni Freedhoff. The book reinforces what I am learning from sparkpeople.

I am glad to be part of the Summer 5% Challenge. I know that these challenges keep me "on track" toward building a happier, healthier life.

I am reading a book right now called, "The Diet Fix: Why Diets Don't Work" by Dr. Yoni Freedhoff. The book reinforces what I am learning from sparkpeople.

One line I like: "The more weight you want to permanently lose, the more of your life you're going to have to permanently change." THIS IS A LIFESTYLE!!!

Another idea from the book I really like is about "what to do when things aren't going to plan?" Dr. Freedhoff suggests asking yourself two questions, "What can I do RIGHT NOW that I can be proud of?" and "What can I do RIGHT NOW that can help a little bit?"

There's a lot in my life right now not-going-according-to-my-plan. It's "Serenity Prayer" time. But with the help of sparkpeople I can make good choices that will build a healthy, happy life.

My Goals:
I want to be healthy and happy and have work/life balance.

My Program:
Diet Plan for the 5% Summer Challenge:
I will eat breakfast, and something healthy every 3-4 hours.
I will mindfully choose my afterwork/tv-viewing snack. I will limit salt-bad fats-and sugars. I will take special care to LIMIT SALT.


Fitness Plan for 5% Summer Challenge:
I will GET UP and MOVE every 30-60 minutes at work...walk for at least 20 minutes/day... and stretch for 30-minutes each evening.
At least once a week I will get to the Y for the weights or the pool or do one of my exercise videos.
Everyday I will get down on the floor and get back up again!
And everyday I will spend at least a few minutes in quiet meditation.

Personal Information:
I am almost 55. I am married (no children). I am a minister. My husband has some serious health problems. I struggle with anxiety. I have recently been diagnosed with Meniere's Disease.

I just read your blog on "Failure"...Please don't think of it as failure. The scales are just a number. You are making lots of progress in being healthy and looking after yourself. I also have to say that you have motivated me....and that is no easy feat. So as you struggle and persever just remember that progress is not always measured by a number...sometimes it is measured by healthy choices, an lots of non scale victories.
