Running Hard Towards New Goals

Hello! I'm 51, and have really benefited from joining Spark. When I first found Spark in September 2006, I was sedentary and miserable. After a few months of reading posts, I started running and in the last five years, I've raced in an awful lot of 5k road races... However life throws out challenges and thanks to doing volunteer work at a community theatre with crazy hours, I've been pressed for time for the last 4 years... and as a result, my running schedule has suffered... and (shudder!) I've gained weight. So... I had to get creative. I now volunteer at our local humane society as a dog walker and it forces me out in the worst weather and has helped my winter resolve. Plus, I'm joining a 24 hr gym and I expect that to help with my consistency. Excuses be gone! Plus, I've tied long strings to my stationary bike and now I have two cat trainers that make me workout... and I have a used total gym and I love it. Ideally I like to bike and run, but now I have the tools to get some sort of workout in when my schedule is overloaded.

In the past, I've raced in...

Running With The Dawgs 5k, 5/26/08
Celebrate Clayton 5k Run, 4/28/07
Shamrock and Roll Road Race 3/16/08
2007 Greenville Candlelight 5k 6/23/07

Willie's 5k Winter Wonder Run Dec 5, 2009.

I haven't listed any for 2010 and 2011 but I did several. I'll never give up the 5ks. They keep me motivated.

My Goals:
To keep on doing what I'm doing... When the weather is awful or my schedule is worse, get out a good book or magazine and go a few miles on the stationary bike. And when circumstances improve, get out there on a run or on a bike.

I'd like to do more strength training... and I'd really like to master kettlebells.

Gotta drink more water...

This year, I just want exercise to keep me from stressing out. I think I've figured out how to do it...

My Program:
Running, running, running. I know of every 5k in the Ga/SC area...

Working out on my total gym.

Working out on the Stationary bike with my cats!

Cycling!

Kettlebells!

My new gym!

Personal Information:

Other Information:
I've become a addict for community improvement. I volunteer at my community theatre, and my local humane society.

Thanks for the nice comments on my blog. I really appreciate it. It was hard to write this first one, since it's such an emotional topic. I'm thinking about the next one I'm going to post, and hope you enjoy it as well!
