Grammas Gonna Get Healthy

Since my retirement, my new job is "Gramma Extraordinaire" . I have 8 great grandchildren and I want to be around to chauffeur, travel with, bake with, help with homework, and go to sporting events for a long time. I need to start getting healthier and I can't start any sooner.

My Goals:
My long term goal is to lose about 50 pounds. My immediate short term goal is to start exercising at least 15 minutes every day and to concentrate on drinking my 8 glasses of water every day. Both of these things are really difficult for me.

My Program:
I have started with my first goal of eating a really healthy breakfast every day and have done that for at least 6 weeks now. I was recently on a vacation where I did a lot of walking and am now doing my walking with my dog every day -- a little farther than I used to.

I keep a glass and pitcher available at all times to remind me to drink water.

Personal Information:
My name is Mary, I am a retired grandmother of 8, widowed about one year ago. I live in Wisconsin so I have to endure the "frozen tundra" for a good portion of the year and am currently really looking forward to spring.

Other Information:
I love to read almost everything. I just finished "Dewey, the library cat" It's a great book and I would recommend it to anyone. I have just started reading "The Spark" as I need some motivation.

Mary, you may want to have your friend check about the cost of getting the car dings fixed without going through the insurance company. Sometimes out of pocket is cheaper in the long run because you premiums may go up next year and that may be more than the cost of paying for the repair.

Just a thought,

Jane

Mary, may I suggest that your Aunt be allowed to make the changes in her home life at the pace she is comfortable with. If she has lived in the rambling house for years giving it up right after the death of her husband may be too hard. Some spouses do not get rid of the clothing and other personal items for several months and some enjoy going into the closet to smell their loved ones clothing.

I realize this may not be feasible because of money and safety but considering you Aunt's age it may be best for her if things can be arranged so she make the transition slowly.
