I feel you on the insomnia thing. A tip that helped me was melatonin. You can get it cheaply at just about any pharmacy department in stores (Walmart, Target, Walgreens, etc.) I'm NOT a doctor, so check with yours first before taking it, but I always lie awake at night, staring at the ceiling for an hour or more. Melatonin won't keep you asleep all night, but it WILL help you fall asleep gently, without any side effects when you wake up.
It's an option that may help you! I'm a chronic insomniac, and it's helped me a LOT.
