The Journey Begins

Hi everyone......well after several years of yoyoing, it's time to get my act together...I found SparkPeople 7 years ago, but haven't used it to it's full potential. I've seen many, many changes, and I've still got a lot to learn. For some reason, I really feel like this is my time to shine. I recently purchased The Spark...what a wonderful book. Even without this amazing web site, it is such an inspiration to read.

My Goals:
I've decided to go with common sense this time. Recommended portions, balanced food groups, while watching calories, fat, and sodium. Physician supervision also. I want to lower my blood pressure and rid myself of medication that I shouldn't need. I want to shop in a "normal" store again, and find someone to share my life and love with, but first I need to work on myself to raise my self-esteem, and become someone I can be proud of. One of my shorter term goals is to kayak with my daughter, next summer, in Lake Michigan...to do that I still need to lose about 80 more pounds and gain some much needed upper body strength. If that goes well, I hope to walk 1/2 of the Chicago Marathon next year (2012).

My Program:
I find walking for long periods of time very difficult, but I have started using the "map route" on the fitness tracker for getting my walks in. It's great to see the calories burned, and distance walked. I'm sure as I lose more weight, the walking will be easier. I've joined a gym, on a month to month to basis...I'm hoping to use it much more than I have in the past. My head is in a much better place.

Personal Information:
I live in a small village about an hour north of Cincinnati, OH. I'm divorced, children are now 25 and 28 years of 6age, and now it's time for mom. I have no desire to be fat and frumpy in my fifties and above, it would be great to be fit and fabulous, instead. Besides, I've got a son getting married in a year, and those pictures are forever!

Other Information:
Dakota, my Belgian Shephard, is one of my inspirations.....he's really insistent that I take him for his walks. We also have Ozzie, a Chow mix. I got him to give Dakota some company ...but now I have a new buddy to get me outside...By the way, I highly recommend dog parks....so much fun!
