My family has a history of diabetes, heart and cholesterol issues. After watching my beloved Grandma die of complications due to a lifetime of diabetes, I've decided I'll do whatever it takes not to go that route.
Throughout the years I've always struggled with my weight. At my heaviest I was about 206 lbs as a senior in high school! That year I lost about 30 pounds at Curves.
Once I left the islands for college in Oregon there was a huge shift in my lifestyle. I made a conscious effort to become knowledgeable in nutrition and exercise, and I became very physically active.
Although my weight has varied a little, I just haven't been able to break the plateau I hit about 6 years ago, which is why I'm here. I'm ready and willing to put in the overtime so that I can be the healthiest and happiest me I can be.
I am currently a very happy newly-wed getting my Master's in Social Work degree (full time) while working full time. I'm searching for my true purpose and loving the adventures. I'm an open book and would love to get to know more people =)
I have found incredible camaraderie, motivation and inspiration through this site and have not found a better tool in my weight loss! I love all my spark friends and enjoy cheering people on as we embark on our journeys together!

NUTRITION: I eat a clean balanced diet full of vegetables and fruits. I'm a selective omnivore (I'll only eat meat if I know exactly where it's coming from) and try to stay away from sugar, dairy and wheat (I just feel better without them).
EXERCISE: I also try to stay balanced with my fitness routine.
Strength training, yoga, turbo kickboxing, spinning, and running [thank you SP + C25K!] I've also become a runner (thank you SP & C25K)!!
EMOTIONAL: I truly believe that I won't create sustainable weight loss if I don't work on myself spiritually + emotionally. I write daily and keep a wellness blog [greenplatedinners.com].
I stay active by going to the beach, walking and hiking.

I was born and raised on Maui in Hawai'i and went to college in Eugene, Oregon [GO DUCKS!]. I've since moved back home to the islands and married the love of my life. I am finding my passions in life and becoming clearer on my life's purpose every single day.
