(1/3/2014) When I began this trek in January of 2011, I was not sure what to expect. But I have been successful in losing weight and keeping it off, hovering around 170 lbs since reaching that weight in July of 2011. Recently I injured my knee and it made it very difficult to work out at the intensity I like. I backed off in the gym and bellied up to the holiday treats. I now have some weight to lose again, and will rely on SP to assist me. I will try to get to 160 lbs.

(1/3/2012) I owe SparkPeople a tremendous debt. When I started this a year ago (see blurb below) I was not convinced I would be successful, and if I was, just how successful I would be. I set a goal to lose 50 lbs. by 8/31/2011. I hit that goal in July. I continue to work out regularly, both cardio and strength training. I have gained a bit of weight back but I knew that I would. I am currently at 172 lbs and have been between 170 and 173 since 10/15/2011. For me, the working out was not a problem. The issue was overeating. Using SparkPeople's Nutrition Tracker enabled me to manage my caloric intake and the content of that intake. For me, that was the key. It took some dedication but if I can do it, anyone can. Jump aboard! There is room for everyone.

(1/5/2011) I am a 50+ male who has been overweight most of my adult life. I am very fortunate to have avoided the serious health issues that come with obesity, but realize I need to take steps. I have been inspired by my sisters who have each lost in excess of 70 pounds.

Cardio in the form of kickboxing mixed with abs work 3 days a week for 45 minutes a day. Muscle confusion and intense cardio is the goal. Strength training 3 days a week for 45 minutes a day.

Personal Information:
I am from Iowa and have lived here my entire life. Iowa is a great place to live, even for a golfer like me. Sure I have to put the clubs away for a few months in the Winter but it just makes you appreciate it much more in the Spring.
