New Year, New Me with a healthy lifestyle!

Hi my name is Ruth. I have been working on losing my weight since Fall of 2005. This is the 1st time in my life I have lost weight, & kept if off for more than 1 yr, LET ALONE 4 yrs. I may have gained a little back, but I will NEVER be as big as I was in the pic just to the left of this.

*** Jan 1st, 2012: The past year is 1 I will never wish back. Lots of disappointments as far as my health goes. 1st was my wrist problems that caused me to cut WAY back on my massaging. MY LIVELIHOOD was @ stake. It's a problem that will never go away or get better, but I have learned how to manage the problem MOST of the time. 1 client/day. Stinks, but @ least I can still work some.
I DID find a Dr that would listen to my concerns & agreed there was something not functioning with me, causing it to be harder than it should be, to lose weight. My hormones AND my thyroid #s were not what they should be. Working on fixing those. I also did a home sleep apnea test & found I have a slight problem there! SO, I'm anxious to see how 2012 goes for weight loss.
The major stress this last yr tho, was our 24 yr old's mishap in Oct. 2 wks b4 leaving for the Air Force, WITH NO INSURANCE, he blows his left knee playing BB @ the 'Y' having to have complete ACL reconstruction & repair a torn meniscus on the VERY DAY he was to leave for the Air Force. Due to negligence on the surgeon's part (we have a multitude of evidence & 2nd opinions of professionals backing this statement), he is NOT recovering as he should by this point. This has caused extreme guilt on my part b/c A: we thought he would be fine for 1 month w/o health insurance until going in2 the Air Force. & B: 'I' toted him on2 MY ortho specialist, the 1 dealing with my wrist problems, & he's the idiot that has messed up his whole rehab! I'm just sick! All this has lead to me NOT eating as healthy or exercising properly the past 2&1/2 months.

So, here it is, Jan 1, 2010 & I'm even further from my goal weight. BUT, it's not all bad. I originally lost 65 #s up to June of 2007. I only had 10 more to my original goal weight (would have lost more if I needed or wanted to), but never got there. My mother's health due to Alzheimer's took a nose dive THE SAME WK I was @ my lowest of 151. She passed away July of '07. I then lost another dear friend's mom that Oct, & I gradually gained back 10#s over the next few months. In May of '08 we went on our 25th Anniversary trip, with me STILL @ 163. Then over the next yr, I gained another 10#s, WHILE still eating healthy & exercising! What gives? Now I'm back to teetering in the upper 170's. I'm eating healthy, cleaner foods than I ever have, I'm exercising @ least 60 min/day, doing cardio & ST. ON TOP OF ALL THAT, I'm losing inches. I know I have gained a lot of muscle over the last yr. I am now teaching 2 exercise classes/wk. Could the age & peri-menopause thing be affecting me? skippy. BUT, I'm NOT giving up, I will continue this WONDERFULLY fun & healthy journey. I LOVE my life, even if I'm not @ that model weight. I get frustrated, but it doesn't last long, especially when I'm in class & @ 45, I'm keeping up with the instructor who is just 3 yrs younger than I. I'm living, loving, & learning.

It's Wed Sept 28th, 2011. Since this last post, I found that I DID have a major hormone imbalance & hypothyroid. I'm doing biodentical hormone replacement (NATURAL) & on a very low dose sinthroid. I haven't noticed a difference yet, but I also haven't worked out as much as I had been. That all changes 2day. 3 months from this very day, my middle son will be graduating from Air Force basic training in San Antonio. I have hired the gym owner/friend to help me. Hold on2 your butts as the story continues.....

*I made this goal, but health issues caused me to gain it all back Labor Day wkend. NO, it wasn't to much celebrating. I seriously had health issues.

*NO high fructose corn syrup
*NO artificial sweeteners


Personal Information:
I'm from Tekamah, 35 miles north of Omaha.
I have been very happily married 28 yrs with 3 great boys. 2 oldest are adults, & the youngest is in High School.
I am a licensed massage therapist with an office in my home.
My best friend is Bubbles43 but we live 1000 miles away from each other.

I am very thankful to have some ME time without distractions of hubby or daughter needing something NOW. no huge meal to make, no huge meal to clean up, and no pressure to EAT said huge meal. Nothing wrong with that. Seems about perfect to me!
