I'm 52years old, a teacher, and a newlywed. (We just celebrated our 2nd anniversary in March 08.) I love to garden , read, try new recipes, bake, and learning to LIKE walking, if not LOVE it quite yet :-)
I just want to have success one day at a time. If I look at the big picture, it seems overwhelming to lose 68 pounds, but if I just do the right thing each day, I'll be on my way, and feel good!
I've made a calendar page from a Microsoft template that I've hung on the refrigerator - each day that I meet my exercise goal, I put a star on it. I guess I'm like a kid, and like to see that positive message that reinforces good actions!

Isometric exercise tones/ builds muscle. Muscle requires the burning of energy. Muscle has to burn calories just to sustain itself in your body. So the more lean muscle you have versus fat, the more calories you burn while you sit, while you relax, and while you sleep, a lot more!
Three extra pounds of lean muscle burns about 10,000 extra calories a month, just sitting around! Add it up. Since aerobic exercise like jogging burns only about 100 calories per mile, and a typical aerobic workout burns 100 calories every 15 minutes, having 3 extra pounds of muscle burns as many calories as running 25 miles per week, or doing 25 aerobic workouts per month without leaving your couch. It's truly amazing.
