This is the LAST time...HEALTH is to be MINE FOREVER!

I'm now a 61 yr old, divorced woman, retired nurse, living with daily back pain from an accident 12 yrs ago that left me with a fractured back and 3 herniated discs. Had surgery twice, have 2 rods and hardware in my back to stablize but everyday is a challenge. I've gained 35 lbs in the past 2 years hardly eating anything but have felt overweight the past 40 years. I tried this program over a year ago and faded without much result so I haven't been around for over a year. Health is MUCH worse and I MUST do something now.
"Help me, Sparkpeople...You're my only hope" (get it?) At least sense of humor is still intact...It's "DO OR DIE" time!

Fitness Minutes: 735

My Goals:
*to be able to easily and happily exercise 4-5 times per week.
*loose 55 pounds (also taking pressure off my back and neck).
*to go vegetarian when the time is right.
*make a life for myself, independently.
*figure out a way to pay back my son for all he has done for me.

My Program:
pre-diabetes plan since I was just diagnosed as this. Hope to go mostly vegetarian someday.

Personal Information:
My name is Maggie, originally from northern California, now living in South Carolina with my youngest son, who coaches college football here. I was a nurse for 24 yrs, married for 10 yrs, giving me 3 children and then married 25 yrs and basically lost everything. Now I am restarting this program because of serious NEW conditions just Dx in December(finally got health insurance and found all this out-yipee!)

Other Information:
I can't continue in nursing anymore so I retired and unfortunately did so at the worst possible time, with this economy BUT I've always loved writing and now I am going after that goal with all my heart. If anyone has any connections with a good publisher or agent, please let me know. It's almost impossible to "get in" without some kind of intro unless your a celebrity or a reality star.

Hi Maggie
Thank you for your wise words on my "Book" blog:) I most definitely consider books friends. I am a firm believer that fiction is the most compelling vehicle to explain deep truth.

How are you doing? I saw on your site that you recently got health care coverage -- thank heavens for that! I hope you're feeling better. I've been on this site for a year and a half. Lost 25 lb in 6 months, kept it off for another 6 months, and then gained 18 back between Christmas and April (my classic winter overeating pattern). I'm just finally getting close to relosing that irritating 18 lb. All this to say that the only lesson I can share with you is that we cannot give up. The quality of our lives lies in the balance. So, every day that we make more good choices than bad is a GOOD day. As long as we aim for improvement rather than the impossible (perfection:)) we can do this. And the good days do build on themselves. It is always motivating to get on a roll ... a streak. Spark People have the right idea there:) Just keep going.

Wishing you well --
Deirdre

Hang in there, Maggie. You've had a run of bad luck, but it cannot last forever. Hugs to you. I hope one small thing comes into your life to give you hope. Hope is a very powerful motivator.

Spoil yourself today:)
