On my 40th birthday I joined a gym and I signed up for sessions with a trainer and a nutritionist. It worked, I lost 9 lobs in four months, going from 134 to 125, reshaping my body, and losing a lot of body fat.

Almost four years later, I've gained it all back. I had quit working out and calorie counting, but now I'm back at it! Now I have the extra incentive of trying to create a heart healthy dad and aunt were both in the hospital for heart disease this past month,

New goals are:

Getting down to 120....and staying there!

Losing the layer of blub on my mid-section.

Toning and tightening--it's all about confidence. I want to be able to wear clothing without worrying about bunches and lumps.

On a less superficial note, I'm happy that my wind has really increased. I'm much less often out of breath. I have a history of heart disease and diabetes in my family, so there's just no point in being overweight unless I want to watch my health slide into the abyss.

Keeping up my with my seven year old and my super-active husband is a challenge and being fit makes such a big difference!

I had a tough time turning 40, and again, I hate to be superficial, but it really came down to not liking what my body had become, not liking what 15 extra pounds did to my face, not liking that I felt sweaty and out of breath most of the time.

Update: 6/18/10
It's been almost a year and I'm still hovering around 125--which is fine. I am much better "shaped" than I was a year ago. After taking it easy for the past few months I am getting back into it and hoping to reach my goal of 120. I want to look great for our week in the OBX in August!

I am joining a running club that runs once a week on Weds nights. Trying to focus on increasing my overall fabulousness...

Update 5/2016
I've gained a bunch of weight. I think 20 lbs, and I am about 140 right now. And I hurt my knee running! And I think I'm perimenopausal. And I keep reading about people with all kinds of diseases, but I think I'm okay for now, at least. Trying to make some baby steps to get back to healthy and hopefully not turn into a total old lady before my time.

My Goals:
I started at 134 and have lost 9 lbs.

I wanted to fit into the bridesmaid dress for my sister's wedding--and I do!

I'd like to lose 8 more pounds this summer and get down to 120 and stay there.

My Program:
I've started working out several times a week. 30 minutes of cardio, plus weights.

Some days, I do Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred (it's hard!) and then a yoga dvd at night.

I've cut way down on my alcohol intake--and feel all the better for it.

I've been counting calories, trying to take in about 1300 each day.

I am a 40 year old mother of a 4 year old. I'm married and I own my own consulting business. I work from home about 30 hours each week.

    I just finished the shred -- all 30 days of it! I feel like jumping for joy! Tomorrow, I'm going to start Jillian's Yoga Meltdown dvd and see where that takes me. I'm trying to break through this 120 wall right now. I'm at 120.9, and I've been at roughly the same place for six weeks. Gotta get past it somehow!
