My diabetic journey

July 2012 I was hit with the diagnosis: diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high triglicerides, literally on the virge of kidney/liver damage. My A1C was 11.5!!!

It was do... or die. Literally. And I didn't want to die. But now, I'm realizing diabetes doesn't mean I can't live.

This is the the path for the rest of my life's journey. The way is marked, the road has some challenges. I may even trip up sometimes, but I'll pick up again and go forward. I ...

My Goals:
1. Get diabetes under control

2. Lower blood pressure

3. Lower cholesterol

4. Get on a better schedule sleep/wake

5. Feel better

My Program:
I eat controlled, very well-balanced portions.

I limit white carbs and sugar intake to a severe minimum. I opt for 100% whole wheat or sprouted wheat products whenever possible.

Loads of vegetables.

Generally stay away from convenience foods and bad food habits.

Drink lots of water between meals.

Used to drink coffee several times pre day with sugar, half & half, etc-- now I have about 3 cups per week with Equal and sugar free creamer. I drink herbal tea w/one sweetner 2 or 3 times per day now.

I love to cook, so I make healthy things in healthy ways that I enjoy; I stay away from convenience foods stuffed with sodium, preservaties, chemicals, hidden sugars & fat.


And... of course... a litte magic doesn't hurt ;o)

Personal Information:
I live on the Gulf Coast of Florida, but am originally a NYC girl. Raised in Brooklyn, I loved so much about it but moved on.

I'm Wiccan Witch, my husband is Pagan, we have a Pagan household. My spirituality is very important to me.

I'm very artistic and creative.

I have 3 kids ages 11 through 22 and a dog.

Other Information:
I am a total Disney World fan and go as often as possible.

I also love holidays-- all kinds. I don't even care if they're mine or not, I'll get in on them.

Skipping along and Sparking randomly!

I hope you are doing well in your journey. I know the damage diabetes can do, and I haven't been diagnosed as diabetic yet but prediabetic, and it runs in my family. I fear it. My husband, who is thin and eats well and exercises, has it (poor guy!). It takes so much! Please keep working at it!

Thanks for your comment on my blog. I used to have to lay on the bed after a shower or a bath - now I don't. Glad you are doing well - Hang in there it does get a little easier the longer you are at this lifestyle change and when I mess up I just pick up and go again instead of waiting for Monday morning to start again.
