Rededication, February 2011

Update, February 26, 2011.
Gosh! Didn't realize it's been a whole year.
I have gained this year, am up to 185. I am NOT very happy with that, and am getting back to the basics, being very strict with myself about meal planning!

I kept up with exercise during the year, but gradually let myself eat more. And actually more carbs & sugar. Since I am strict with myself about keeping my food diary, it's easy to see.

Now to change it. Sigh . . .

UPDATE: FEBRUARY 20, 2010

At 175, have been in this range from October until now. I still average about 60 minutes of exercise every day, but have been eating a little more (still healthy food), seeking the happy medium that will let me maintain! Perhaps in the spring and summer, during fresh veggie season, will work on losing some more.

On October 23, 2009, my 2-year anniversary, I weighed 177 pounds! I have lost a small person--120 pounds in 2 years!

Guess I'm not just "meant to be fat" at all. When I take the responsibility for making myself obese, I could then take the responsiblity for un-making myself so. And I did! and so can you and you and you and you

June 8, 2009, Weigh in at 191!

As long as I stay with my process, about a pound a week comes off. It's like undressing, 1 pound at a time. Process includes tracking all my food, average about 1800 calories per day (less on weekdays, more on weekends) and about 75 minutes of exercise per day (averaged--90 minutes most days & Sundays off--quad exercises, stationary dual workout biking and regular biking, water exercises & now weight machines).

Lots of self talk needed for the after-work exercise--gotta really talk to make that car go to the gym after work!

MAY 8, 2009,I weighed in at 196 pounds at my monthly doctor's appt.

Since October 25, 2007, I have lost 101 pounds!

For the first time in 24 or more years, I weight under 200 pounds. Last time was when I was pregnant with my second daughter who is now 24, years old.

Eat less & move more!

I have eaten less and moved more.

I am learning to eat just for one person, to fuel my body, not feed my emotions.

I am learning that exercise is not a dirty word, that daily amounts of exercise about an hour to an hour and a half will keep me healthy.

I think I can do this!

I know I can do this!

I can do it!

Today, I am well on the way to a better, more healthy life.

WE CAN DO IT!

Below, is the prior intro to my SparkPage.

This started because of knee problems, has changed into a whole lifestyle change! 96 lbs gone so far after 17 months, with a food diary and exercise, mostly biking and water exercise, r.ecently starting some weight lifting

For the second year of working on my health, looking for different exercises to keep from getting bored, have added weight lifting. Feeling a lot stronger in the core of my body, can actually do toe touches, Yay!

Still sticking with the food dary--it's my "quit" mechanism. And I stay away from sweets--don't need 'em anymore, don't want 'em, they don't live in my world! Yogurt or low-calorie pudding or fruit cup is about as sweet as it gets.

Great blessings have flowed from increasing my health!

Here are some eloquent, elegant words of insight for this journey we are all on from SOUTHERNGAGIRL.

What happened? How did I turn that around? I'm going to list the steps out lest one day I need them again. I want to have them in my own words to look back at.
1. eat healthy ... even though the scale was not moving
2. exercise daily even though the scale was not moving and I did not feel like it
3. journal ... my feelings count and they need to be given a place where they rate in my life ... where they rate my time and my attention
4. respect other people ... reach out and touch the lives of others who are on this journey with me ... they are going through tough stuff too
5. it won't all be fixed today ... say it until I live it
6. read and learn ... find out new ways to take care of me in ways that are nurturing
7. let go ... realize when I can't make a difference and let go ... there are some things and some people that simply drain me of too much ... let go when I can't make a difference

My Goals:
Lose 137 pounds (from 297 to 160)

Remain mobile with bad knees & no insurance for surgery to help!

Apply lessons learned in other areas of my life.

My Program:
Record calorie values of food & drink ingested in food diary.

Exercise about an hour every day (except Sunday--day off exercise). Currently about 20 minutes of AM stretches, 25 minutes dual workout stationary bike, 30 minutes water exercises, up to 5 lb size hand weights, 15 min.

Personal Information:
Live in the sunny state of Arizona!

54 years old, raised 3 daughters, now have 5 grandsons!

Work in an accounting office, so greatly look forward all day to getting in the pool, LOL!

What you're trying is awesome!

I have NO DOUBT that you'll ride those 33 miles strongly. If you can ride a beach cruiser 12 miles then 33 on a road bike should be a snap.

I do hope you plan to get your road bike well in advance of the ride. Also, good quality bike shorts are CRUCIAL!

Let me know if you need any help with bikes or gear.

holy cow!! tell ur daughter i said good luck!! nursing school is no easy task, thats for sure!!!! but well worth it!!! i luv my job, thx for ansking!! NM weather is so-so. we are amazed cuz it has snowed 3x since thanksgiving......we r lucky to get even a flake!! lol!!! but all is well.
