I'm 70, and still working on taking charge of my life. When I joined SparkPeople, my main goal was to lose weight, but that's gradually changed into something much more dynamic. In general, I'm eating more healthfully, doing some kind of exercise daily, and working toward my goals. I like to say I anticipate at least 25 more years, and with SparkPeople's help, they will be good years!
While the underlying goal is to lose weight, the goals that will allow me to achieve it are to develop and maintain habits that will lead to a healthy lifestyle. The weight loss should occur without my giving it much thought.
For now, I am doing the following:
1. Tracking everything I eat on the Nutrition Page.
2. Getting the daily amount of fluids (but I still love my coffee, so I try to drink more water than coffee each day).
3. Tracking my cardio and strength training. I'm doing 30-40 minutes of various types of cardio per day and trying to do some kind of strength training at least 3 times per week.

Although I maintained a weight of about 163 most of my adult life, in 1993 I was diagnosed with sarcoidosis. I was on prednisone off and on over the next 6 years, gaining weight each time, but never managing to lose it before the next time. In 2007, I had to go back on prednisone and gained again, though I lost that weight fairly quickly.
With an advanced degree in English, I would never have anticipated becoming a technical writer, but that's what I did for 20 years before retiring in 2005.
Larry & I got active with a local rose society in 1986, and I edited the society newsletter for 12 years and the newsletter for the PNW District of the American Rose Society for 6 years. I am an ARS Consulting Rosarian, and our shared love of roses deeply affected our lives.

Lou, at one of the family reunions this summer I found out my mom did welding at the Portland Ship yards but also became the first woman ship fitter. There is a story behind that...

Thanks for your comment on my blog. I do walk in place and that is how I have been increasing my steps and endurance. I walk during commercials and around the house inside and out. I live in the woods and have some beautiful roads to walk and am building my endurance to be able to walk them. Also use my Gazelle but have only been able to get 10 to 15 minutes BUT am going to continue until I can do 30 minutes consistently. Again Thank you.
