Losing Fat and finding ME

So, I have decided the best way to do this is 20 pounds at a time! I have close to 200 pounds to lose, so it might take me a while. But after my first 30 I'll add 20 to my "pounds lost" ticker until I reach my ultimate goal. Hopefully this will make the task seem a little less daunting : )

I am a ďmorbidly obeseĒ young woman, and to be honest I would rather be called ďfatĒ. This is just my personal preferenceÖ.

Now to my story. I have been overweight all my life, ...

Now to my story. I have been overweight all my life, literally. I was born at almost 10 pounds, so when I say all my life, I mean all my life. I remember going to doctors appointments and my mom leaving crying because the doctor would always tell her that I was too heavy for my age. I think that she felt like she failed me somehow (I can only assume this though, because sheís never actually told me). But, with that said, she never really did anything to change the course of that. As a child we were always to clear our plate at dinner before getting up. My mom, being a single parent would usually bring home groceryís that were the cheapest, and therefore not the healthiest. So my childhood was filled with big servings of processed foods.

Now, here I am as an adult overweight and starting to feel uncomfortable. There is aches and pains that werenít there before, constant fatigue, and just an overall feeling of blah (if that makes sense). I have never in my life been made to feel less than. In my family Iíve always felt beautiful and loved. My small group of friends never made issue with my weight. In school I was never made fun of or bullied because of my weight (at least not that Iím aware of). So this is not to fit in, or to be prettier or skinny. I just want to be healthy.

I was recently diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. It is an autoimmune disease in which your immune system attacks your joints. It causes inflammation and pain, lots and lots of pain. The process is different for everybody, but in most patients it attacks the joints in the upper body. Most specifically the hands, wrists and elbows. But, of course I have to be different, so most of my pain is in my lower body. My knees and ankles. Of course as soon as the pain started the first conclusion everybody came to (myself and my doctors) was that it was because Iím carrying at least 150 extra pounds. After the blood work was done and the diagnosis was made I was started on medication. This has helped with the pain, but I know that losing weight will only help more. This is a crippling disease and I donít want to be in a wheelchair before Iím 40. The damage that is done to my joints canít be undone, so I want to prevent as much damage as I can. The only way I can think to do this is to strengthen my body, eat cleaner and lose the weight.

Thatís why Iím here. Iím hoping to find inspiration, encouragement and just help. Iím kinda shooting in the dark here. Iím trying to undo a lifetime of bad habits.
