Lori's Journey to fitness...

I'm a young grandmother ( 53 years old) of 5 and miss carrying around my little ones. I have a few problems with my back and I feel that losing weight will help it get better, and I will be able to carry the babies again. I want to lose 30 lbs. In 2000 I weighed 210 pounds and got serious about losing weight. I walked and changed my eating habits and lost weight...got down to 140!
That was within a year. The first few years I stayed at 140-145. Then gradually the weight has begun to add ...

That was within a year. The first few years I stayed at 140-145. Then gradually the weight has begun to add on. Now I'm 156.5. I'm petrified of gaining more. I gained 10 lbs during the past year because I haven't been able to do much exercise due to back pain and surgery on a ruptured disc. I started using SparkPeople July 26 at 160 pounds.

I'm a Christian, and I am pretty quiet about it usually. I just figure my actions speak louder than words, but I use that as my justification for the lack of courage I have in sharing with others the convictions I have in my mind that God is the only source of my life and happiness. I have had a great three months and I took all the credit, I am ashamed to say. Sure I had to make the efforts and actively work the program I've planned for myself, but I believe my strength to do so comes from him! To God be the Glory!

5/11/12
I've stalled between 142 and 145. I'm not as motivated to get off the last couple of pounds since I'm feeling pretty good about myself. I like how my clothes fit. But for some reason I do keep making efforts to lose and get down to 140. I had thought 130 would be my goal, but now I don't see that as realistic.

7/26/12
It has been one year since I first logged into SparkPeople. I weigh 16 pounds less and am at a good weight and fitness level. I have recently been working on maintaining. I'm not having a hard time continuing to exercise, but struggle everyday to keep my calorie intake at a level to maintain my weight. Haven't quite figured out my personal formula for success. There is the factor of going through menopause this last 7 months, and I'm sure my metabolism is fighting with that! But I will fight back!

My Goals:
Update: 11/4/12

I have been maintaining a weight between 142 and 145 since Feb of 2012. This is good. According to my measurements for Body Fat Percentage, done by the kinesiologist at the Y, I am at 24.4%. My goal was 25% so I am very happy with that measurement!

I am in maintenance mode. I struggle a bit with binges lately, but with the support I'm receiving from y'all at SP, I am going to get past that.

My Program:
Swimming and walking are my current modes of exercise. I drink at least 8 glasses of water each day. I'm trying to exercise 6 days a week. I am consistently eating 5 or more freggies a day. I'm recording food intake and also my exercise.

I've recently learned that I eat out of boredom.

5/11/12 I've added stationary biking over the last month and it's going well. My back isn't hating it. I'm thinking about adding the elliptical this week.I'm also trying to include ST twice a week.

11/12 I've been able to successfully add the elliptical for the last few months. I've worked up to a full hour at a time on it.

Personal Information:
Married 35 years. 4 grown children.

5 grandchildren. a 6th on the way!

Other Information:
I'm a Christian

I love to read. One of my favorite books is The Shack.

I'm a knitter and a quilter.

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Good idea to purge the pantry while spring cleaning! I tackled the fridge, but not the pantry, yet!

Sounds like you are doing well, aside from the neighbor`s cookies! I've missed your blogs. emoticon

I also love poke..but lean towards the tofu or shrimp ones that are cooked..not so much the raw foods. I miss the papaya and all of the ethnic foods..like Korean and Japanese.
That was a long trip for your DIL and family.

Yes, it is hard not to react to the scale. Even though it only may be a few pounds, you always feel fatter then you think you look fatter. Hopefully with years of practice this mindset will ease.

It is stressful when husbands are sick or injured! Mine has been really sick for most of the winter..has had to see a pulmonoligist.

I ate much better yesterday..felt so good! I read a quote on SP yesterday you might like...it goes something like the only difference between those who have willpower and those who don't is that that they made the choice for change..

Lets make this a great weekend no matter what is going on with our husbands!

I echo your comment about men and doctors! When mine had his TIA he just kept saying to leave him alone. He didn't want me to get an ambulance at all! It's a worry! I'm sure it's why I can't get rid of the extra weight and have an attack of cold sores! They have no idea of the stress it causes us!
