Forty and Accepting It

Well I guess it is time to update my page. I just turned 45. I'm no longer fighting my 40s, I'm accepting it.

I joined Sparks in Mar 08 and with the help and support of this amazing group I've achieve most of my fitness goals and now am encouraged to set some new goals. I still struggle with my nutrition. So my immediate goal is to eat better all around.

I've been fortunate to achieve some of the goals I set 5 years ago (ran a half marathon and two full marathons.) I stopped racing because of a hip injury, but I can now run again as long as I don't over do it. Still hit the gym several times a week and hike and bike when the weather isn't over 100 degrees.

But I realize I still need to reach my goal of am trying to eat healthier on an everyday basis. I'm an all or nothing person so that causes my weight to yo-yo a lot. So my goal for the upcoming year is a realistic eating plan. Nothing drastic, just good choices, consistently.

My last goal is still acceptance and to find something to be joyful about EVERY DAY!

I love my friends on Sparks. Thanks for being there.

My Goals:
I would like to eat better. I have a pretty healthy diet but I cheat a lot!

Run a the Rock N Roll marathon in Las Vegas in Dec 09.

Train for Boston marathon in Apr 2010.

My Program:
I've rediscovered running 2 years ago and run 3-4 x per week. I am going to a strength training class at my gym 3 x a week. I don't like to lift on my own.

Personal Information:
I am 41 this year. I live in Phoenix AZ but I grew up in central PA. Go Penn State! I have two boys (12 and 10.) I went thru a pretty rough patch about 5-6 years ago. But 5 years ago I got my life back on track. I've since lost 35 lbs and am happier than I've been in years. I still have the daily struggles with food and self acceptance. My sister is a member of Sparks and that motivated me to join.

Other Information:

Thanks for the pedicure goodie - we ended up walking 8 miles (I was wearing high-heeled boots, too). OUCH. HAHA At least we walked off lunch, drinks, and dinner/dessert! We ended the night at the opera to see Mozart's Magic Flute - it was truly a day/nite to remember!!!

Thanks for the running shoes, Liz! I just have to get out there and USE them!! Good job on the hike - 510 calories is nothing to sneeze at!!

Thanks for the goodie...actually fit into my skinny jeans, which made me feel great!

Sorry to hear about the loss your church community suffered. It's so hard to cope with any death, let alone something that seems so desperate. My prayers are with you, your family and entire community.
