My Story

I joined SparkPeople in March of 2008 and was supposed to reach my goal of losing 50 pounds by March 2009. Unfortunately, that did not happen. Here it is Jan. 2010 and I have gained back all of the almost 30 lbs. that I lost.
I have tried several times, but it has been difficult getting back on track and now I'm trying again beginning today, Jan. 2, 2010. No more procrastinating and telling myself that "at my age I should just relax and enjoy." I know for certain that I don't feel as ...

I know for certain that I don't feel as good as I did when I was watching my nutrition and exercising regularly.

My Goals:
My goal is to lose 50 lbs., but primarily I need to develop a healthier lifestyle through proper nutrition and daily exercise.

My Program:
I am starting my program all over again. Counting my calories, exercising regularly at least 30 mins. a day. I do Curves 3X a week and may up that to 5X a week. I'm doing a walking program at home. Will start there and see how it goes.

Personal Information:
I am a retired, grandmother of 3 wonderful grandchildren. I was born and raised in Hawaii, but now live in Middle Tennessee. I have struggled with my weight throughout my life and did have a pretty good grip on it until I moved to Tennessee 8 years ago (whoa...did'nt realize it has been that long). I had previously lost 30 lbs. with SP, but due to medications, have gained all of that back...so now I start over.

Other Information:
I enjoy oil painting and do have some pieces hanging in a local gallery. The subjects I like to paint are figurative revolving around my culture (Hawaiian) and inspirational. I also do portraits and will do them on commission as well.

Hi again, Lokelani ~ stopping by to see if you've been Sparking yet this year...seems not. So happy to see that your painting is going really strong, though. It is so nice to have a passion like yours.

Aloha!

Hi, Lokelani! What a nice surprise to see you! I'm afraid I've been pretty scarce on this site, not sparking at all. But I am happy to say that I can continue enjoying your wonderful art because I just subscribed to your blog.

Hope you are enjoying the new year!

Hi, Lokelani! My daughters are 19 and 16, and my older one only took trapeze CLASSES (part of a school project last year on circus life). Glad you are sticking with Curves - it's very popular!

Thanks for the compliment on my art. I choose colored pencil because I can't control wet media as well. I love oils, but am concerned about the "toxicity", even though they are supposed to be "safe" these days. I am also very slightly color blind which really hinders my work with color. :-(

Enjoy your week and good luck with your painting! How was your art exhibit?
