I've been away for a while but thought I should pop back in. Life is good...and way too short for me to be SO hard on myself. SO....

Christmas Day 2006, I joined Sparkpeople with 135 lbs on this 5ft tall frame. I originally lost 25 lbs with a very strict focus on nutrition and exercise. Most of it has slowly come back but I'm staying pretty steady weight-wise, just under 130 lbs...and that is just a number anyway. I haven't had the determination to stay so strictly focused on nutrition and it seems I've become stagnant in some ways with regard to exercise.

Hubby and I added a family member last Winter....a chocolate lab puppy named Tank...and so the world has changed forever, LOL.

This year, I really scaled back my racing, after last year's ALMOST a Half a month AND my first and probably only 50K. I ran the Half at the Hamptons with friends in February, ran a couple 5Ks, and a Half in October...with lots of short runs with The Tank in between. It's been fun!

I'm thinking now about my 2015 Race Schedule...really wanting to do a relay...and more trail races...AND a Canicross with The Tank. Can anyone tell I'm totally smitten with him? :-)

'Our running shoes are really erasers. Every step erases a memory of a past failure. Every mile brings us closer to a clean slate. Each footstrike rubs away a word, a look, or an event that led us to believe that success was beyond our grasp.' ~John Bingham

'Dead Last Finish is better than Did Not Finish which so trumps Did Not Start.' ~Unknown

'The challenge in running is not to aim at doing the things no one else has done, but to keep doing things anyone could do—but most never will.' ~Joe Henderson

'Have a dream. Make a plan. Go for it. You'll get there, I promise.' ~Zoe Koplowitz, Achilles Track Club member with multiple sclerosis who required 24 hours on crutches but finished the 1993 New York City Marathon

'Road runners are lean and skinny; trail runners can crush road runners with their calves and power up mountains with their glutes.'~Karen Gross email

'You can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward or uncomfortable when you try something new.'~Unknown

'The true measure of an Individual is how he treats a person who can do him no good.' ~Ann Landers

'Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.' ~Mahatma Gandhi

'What people say about you is more a reflection of what is in their hearts than what is in yours.' ~Lady Donkey

'What we hope ever to do with ease, we must learn first to do with diligence.' ~Samuel Johnson (thanks Lori)

'Being fat is hard. Losing weight is hard. Maintaining is hard. Pick your hard.' ~Unknown

'Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired in the morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired.' ~ GEN George S. Patton, 1912 Olympian

'Nobody grows old by merely
living a number of years.
People grow old only by
deserting their ideals.
You are as young as your faith,
as old as your doubts;
as young as your
self-confidence,
as old as your fear;
as young as your hope,
as old as your despair.'
~GEN Douglas MacArthur

'True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost.'
~ Arthur Ashe

'Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.'

My Goals:
~Stay below my 'max' weight for the military-met Spring 07, maintained Fall 14.

~Score 300 on my PT test-last accomplished in May13, but have hung right below 300 missing my run max by seconds.

~Manage my sweet tooth and be more mindful about what goes in my mouth-constant battle!

~Work to lower LDL, ARGH-darn genetics.

~Shake up my exercise/eating program.

~Return to range of 120-125, and focus on strength training as well as running.

My Program:
I'm generally not a very regimented person at home, as work can be quite structured so my program is not strictly metered. I should probably return to using both nutrition and exercise here on the Spark as I found them both very useful for accountability. Always looking for ways to improve cardio intensity and time, try different fitness avenues, add more variety to strength training, eat less overall and munch on healthier sweets.

Personal Information:
I'm a non-Native Mainer married to a Native...my husband and I share our living space with 4 unique felines and a rambunctious chocolate lab named Tank...we're homebodies and wouldn't live our life any other way.

Other Information:
Love all kinds of books and music...always looking for new yummy healthy sweet stuff to try...

From a NIKE ad-
'I have THUNDER THIGHS
and that's a compliment
because they are strong
and toned
and muscular
and though they are unwelcome
in the petite section
they are cheered on in marathons
fifty years from now
I'll bounce a grandchild on my thunder thighs
and then I'll go out for a run.
Just Do It.'

Thanks for reading and commenting on my blogs!

Warrior Dash: Was the most challenging and most fun thing I have ever attempted. I WILL be doing another one!

Insanity: We never finished the program, we did Month 1 and then Recovery Week, and when we attempted Month 2 I got sick both times, so we are back to Month 1. Since I have started training for a marathon, we have dropped Insanity back to Mon-Wed-Fri and running Tue-Thu-Sun, but I have been ill for the past week, so I haven't done anything lately :(

HI I JUST saw your post about the New Bedford Half. I actually ran there pretty well- 1:49 so much better than Jones. I got over that bad run -fast. Only thing you can do. Since then I have run even better. Lots of PRS for a 12k, 10k 47:51, and close to PR for 5k 22:35- my best is 22:31. Working hard. Just started to train for triathlons! Hope you are running well too!
