Linda's journey

I have been a member of Spark for some time but have yet to really put any effort into it. I am trying to get healthy for myself and my family. This time I want a lifelong change. No more diets!
I have been reading Spark and am really feeling inspired and motivated to make some real changes and pass them on to my family. I finally have the motivation I've been looking for to achieve my goals. Thank you Spark People. I'm looking forward to talking with you and making new friends.

My Goals:
Losing the weight that holds me back from being the person I truly am. To look better, feel better and enjoy life the way I pictured I would. To be healthy for my grandchildren and to be around to see them grow. To pass on to them the healthy habits I learn from SP.

My Program:
I am breaking down my goals into streaks that I can manage starting with walking. As I get better at that I will add another exercise. I hate to break streaks once I get going.

emoticon Greetings and emoticon - I'm really glad you've joined the family!!

Congrats on getting active with SparkPeople - it's a great community, wonderful resources and fantastic support- it's also lots of fun and easy to make friends because we're all in this together. The support from the Spark Community has helped me and a lot of others so I am glad you are part of the family now!

Sometimes the best way to start is to just pick a small goal such as drinking 8 glasses of water a day or eating 5 fruits and veggies plus a small exercise goal such as increasing whatever you've been doing by 10%. There's a great article explaining how one or two changes can lead to long-term success - you can read the article at http://www.dailyspark.com/blog.asp?p
ost=one_healthy_change_leads_to_another . I like the way a HEALTHY LIFESTYLE is emphasized here instead of a 'quick fix wonder diet' and another nice thing about SparkPeople is that we have permission to be human - we don't have to change everything at once or be in a hurry to reach our goals. EVERYONE has ups and downs, setbacks, detours and absolutely NOBODY goes straight to their goal the first time they try - if it seems like they did, I guarantee they will find themselves needing to 'do it again' at a later date!

So WHEN you trip up a little bit, just dust yourself off and start over, take a few baby steps and then a few more and before you know it, you'll have completed a long journey - I hope you enjoy this community as much as I have - it teaches us how to make positive lifetime changes because that's the only thing that will work over time!

Please check out SparkTeams - you can choose them by age group, lifestyle or interests, geographic location, common goals such as a certain weight loss or several other ways. I've recently had great luck losing weight by reducing carbs and have joined a number of low-carb teams - but however you choose teams, once you get active with them, you'll find a lot of answers and good advice.

If you ever need any help using features of the site, there are tutorial videos under the HELP section that can show you how to use the features of the site and great FAQs for many topics. You can also find them on the START page and several other places on the site. I wish you the best on your journey!!!
