Permission to live your life the way you choose, and if others don't like it, tough sh*t

If this doesn't describe the last four years of my life, then I don't know what does...

Your graduation is this weekend! I hope with all that's been going on, you can make it. Your friends and family will enjoy it even more than you. (I was hesitant to go to mine, but my folks guilted me into it--they get to celebrate because they couldn't do the work for me, so it's their way to participate.)

Enjoy the congratulation from your loved ones.

Thank you for your comment on my blog - I think the situations are way more similar that you might have known. My mom is 58 and her husband is 51(?) she was hesitant to marry him at all because of his young son - she didn't want to be a "mom" again, she still doesn't want to be dealing with a teenager and while she sometimes tries to be supportive of him she more often is just ready to be done with it. My step brother is also not a "normal" child - he's had a really rough history with a lot of aspects totally out of his control that are reflected in his behavior. My brother and I had really very stable conditions for most of our childhood and our behavior reflected that - she's lost in dealing with a new personality that developed through a troubled past. So while she and I have talked at length about the whole situation, your comment gave me a really good dose of alternate perspective. I needed that :)

and I tried last night, I knocked on his door and announced myself while it was just him and I in the house, he didn't answer me. I left him be. I'll try again some other day.
