Recently diagnosed with celiac disease, so now I am trying to follow a gluten-free, vegan diet. I'm currently working FT, attending graduate school, and completing an internship so I have very little free time - it is making it hard for me to cook/eat the way I need to and get exercise in. But those are really just excuses. If I made it a priority, I could do it. I have a lot of support from family and friends.

Am I going to be doing this my entire life? Talking about getting healthy, losing weight, doing it for awhile and then falling back to where I was? It is sad and frustrating. I am back up to 250. I have gained 20 pounds the past year while I have been in grad school - but basically my weight has been increasing since I stopped eating vegan. In the year & a half since my last update I have gained 40 pounds. Ugh. And now I have less time.

Well, my journey continues. Iím not where I had hoped I would be right now, but I am content and comfortable. Iíve maintained 211-218 for almost the past year, with very little effort. So my body is comfortable at this weight, and Iím not having the physical problems I was having (trouble walking, pain in my ankles, etc). However, I have a long way to go am still focused on getting fit and healthy. I would be ecstatic if this time next year I was under 175. I am pretty disappointed that I havenít made any progress towards my fitness goals (running a mile) and that I am no longer eating vegan. I eat vegan most of the time, but I have gotten pretty lax especially when it comes to dairy. So my plan is to get back to eating vegan, and getting to the gym for some cardio 2 times per week. Itís definitely doable.

Looking back at how it all startedÖ

I started struggling with my weight during my senior year of high school when I was no longer participating in swimming as actively as I had in the past. I was approximately 150 pounds when I was 16 and very in shape from swimming. By the time I was 18 and had started college I was 175. By the time I was 21 and graduated college, I was 240. I moved to Boston and was running and eating really healthy and brought my weight down to 210. Then when I was 24, I moved in with my boyfriend and watched my weight creep up to 250. I started Sparkpeople but then lost my job in April 2007 and my weight peaked at 269. For the first year on Sparkpeople, I participated on & off in tracking my food and being on a team and lost about 20 pounds, but my weight was pretty steady around 245. In June 2008, I began eating almost completely vegan (mostly for health reasons) and the effect was dramatic. I lost 40 pounds & felt great! My excema was gone, I had more energy, slept better Ė my body definitely took to it. In December 2008, I was at 205 and happy. I got through the holidays without a problem, but then went on a cruise early in 2009 and have been 211-218 since.

Thank you for your comment on my blog! That is a great idea - I'm printing it out right now. I think posting it on the fridge is where it should go - to remind me NOT to eat the junk! I saw your profile on Meg's page and just had to come visit you!

I looked at your pictures and can so relate! I was 150 before I was 12!

I can still remember how FAT I was at 175 on the way up - - - and how slim I was at 179 on the way down!

WTG on your fantastic weight loss! Keep going, you will reach your goals! I find your page very motivational and am voting for you! I really love all your pictures of you have so much fun on the way up... now to take some shots of you on your journey to a healthier you!
