Gotta Get Strong Again!

I've hit middle age & lost so much motivation for myself. My goal is to make myself important again for my own health and happiness. I want to be a stronger. I used to hit the ball a mile, & now I feel like I can barely swing the club anymore.

My Goals:
Get strength back - in arms & upper body for golf, and in legs for stamina, walking & would LOVE to stand up on water skis!

Personal Information:
I am a 44-year old wife, mother of 3, and grandma to 1 active 5-year old... I sure would like to keep up with her! I love to golf but but have gotten so lazy it's hard to get to the club even for a round of 9 holes. We live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, & I definitely get lazy in the winter.

Other Information:
I love to read - currently am interested in paranormal mysteries - something I never thought I'd like. My favorite movie is 'Grease', and our family loves to go camping. We just bought a boat, & one of my goals is to stand up on skis... It takes a lot of leg strenght I currently don't have.

emoticon Welcome to SparkPeople!

Are you competitive by nature? One of my daily goals is to hit 100 SparkPoints. When I do that, I've not only read articles, I've interacted with other members by reading and commenting on their blogs and writing my own blog. 100 points gets me here and gets me active each and every day.

When I started, I made the commitment to workout daily and write a blog about it. On days when I don't feel like doing it, I think about the blog I need to write and I certainly do NOT want to write that I was lazy and did not work out.

Maintain your goals on your SparkPage (that's what all the goal-setting gurus write about) and make the goals public on your page. Write about it on your blog every day.

Weight loss = calorie maintenance, cardio, and strength. Calorie maintenance is every day, cardio is at least five days per week, and strength is 3 to 4 days per week. I believe you need all three for a successful weight loss and fitness program.

Above all, be consistent. Doing something toward you goal every day will pay big rewards over the next few months. You can do this!

Hi Laurel! Welcome to SparkPeople!! This is a wonderful site with so many resources like articles, trackers, and community SparkTeams to help give you support and keep you motivated. See how many SparkPoints you can get each day and this will help you find and use many of the tools of the site. Make sure you make a SparkPage as this is how you can have people post to you to help inspire you! Please remember this is a marathon, not a sprint. It is not a diet, but a lifestyle change. I am down 60 lbs with SparkPeople and I feel so much lighter and stronger and healthier every day! You can do it! Best of luck on your journey to a healthier lifestyle!

Regarding exercise, set yourself a 10 minute a day goal. Often when you start with 10, you can do more, but even if you don't, just getting the habit going will pay off!

Welcome Laurel, emoticon

This is a fantastic site for information, tools and support. I struggled with exercise (and still do!), but once I really committed to 10 minutes a day it got easier. My best advice is to start with small changes and use the nutrition and fitness trackers. Read success stories and check out teams that are formed around topics that interest you. Continue to read articles for information - there is a wealth of great stuff here!

And forgive yourself when your day isn't perfect - the motto here is "participation, not perfection."

Cheers! emoticon
