September 25, 2012 marked my 4 year anniversary with Spark People! I cannot believe how fast the time has flown by and I am still Sparkin'.
When I started Spark People I believed that it was impossible (at my age) to reduce my weight by much. It certainly seemed that my metabolism was permanently stuck in low. My doctor even advised me to be realistic and accept the fact that I just needed to try to gain the least possible. In the first year I released 35 pounds, my waist became 7 inches smaller and I gained more energy and flexibility. I have continued to drink 8 glasses of water every single day so far and I am tracking most of the food I eat. The nutrition tracker has helped me make the best choices to keep my calcium, protein, and fiber intake up. This is a lifetime first for me! A BIG THANK YOU TO SPARK PEOPLE and to all you SPARKLERS out there who inspire me on a daily basis!

My Goals:
My overriding goal is balance. I want to be fit and full of vitality and yet find a way to achieve those goals in a patient and loving way without punishing myself. I am gaining insight into how my body works learning more about exercise and nutrition. I intend to continue on this journey
and lovingly go from lumpy to luscious.

My Program:
I started with small changes. I have been one of those people who overwhelm themselves with change and cannot sustain it. So, I began with a commitment to drinking 8 glasses of water a day, 10 minutes of exercise and sharing my goals with someone daily.

For 2010 add:
1. walk 10,000 steps a day. - Need more consistency on this one.
2. Do some form of Cardio for 45 min. 6 days a week.
3. Do strength training 3x a week.
4. Learn to play the harmonica and ukulele for fun!
5. Work my way up to a full Push Up this year.

Personal Information:
I am fortunate enough to live where it is possible to exercise outdoors most of the year. I find spending time in nature and with animals to be very nourishing to my soul. They are GREAT teachers.

Other Information:
I love collecting inspiring quotations and I try to focus on one daily.

"When things go wrong, don't go with them."

"Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could..."
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Years wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul."
~Samuel Ullman

"I do not want the peace which passeth understanding, I want the understanding which bringeth peace."
~Helen Keller

What a caterpillar calls the end of the world the master calls a butterfly. ~ Richard Bach

We had our first measureable snowfall of the season, 6/10 of an inch, last nite. Everything has powdered-sugar-dust today, pretty. The leaves haven't even fallen off all the trees yet, so things seem a little out of whack. Snow two weeks before Thanksgiving...I think last yr we did not get snow til just before Christmas. But each year has its own rhythm. How are you doing? Out of whack, finding a rhythm, both, neither?

Hello my friend. The landscape has sure changed since I last wrote. It's yard cleanup day today. Taking advantage of no rain and not too cold to do all the Fall chores. Thank you for Anniv wishes. Not taking any of it for granted.
How are you doing this season?
    Love, S.

The goldfinches are eating the seeds from the unsightly Echinacea. No pretty pink petals are left, but if the birds are eating the seeds how can I remove their food source just so my raised bed looks more tidy? The sedum has flowered and so I will focus on those. The squirrels are squirreling away nuts from the hickory tree, the lawn is polka-dotted from their buried treasure. The chipmunks are tunneling to deposit the acorns stuffed into their cheeks. The bunny is eating her way thru the hosta leaves, one at a time. Ever notice how rabbits never use their little hands to eat? The food goes in their mouths as if on a conveyor belt or a table saw. She'd better gain some weight before winter. I see her now at my neighbor's, only her ears and partial face are sticking up thru the grass; she's so tiny. We are all peacefully co-existing. That's the nature story for today :)

We have entered a new season, meteorologically speaking. Sept, Oct, Nov = Fall.
My hummingbirds are beginning to ponder migration, I can tell by the way they linger at the feeder, they are "bulking up" for the long flight!

Thinking of you as you enter a new season, figuratively and literally.
