New Year! Refreshed Me! Working on current goals!

September 25, 2012 marked my 4 year anniversary with Spark People! I cannot believe how fast the time has flown by and I am still Sparkin'.
When I started Spark People I believed that it was impossible (at my age) to reduce my weight by much. It certainly seemed that my metabolism was permanently stuck in low. My doctor even advised me to be realistic and accept the fact that I just needed to try to gain the least possible. In the first year I released 35 pounds, my waist became 7 inches ...
In the first year I released 35 pounds, my waist became 7 inches smaller and I gained more energy and flexibility. I have continued to drink 8 glasses of water every single day so far and I am tracking most of the food I eat. The nutrition tracker has helped me make the best choices to keep my calcium, protein, and fiber intake up. This is a lifetime first for me! A BIG THANK YOU TO SPARK PEOPLE and to all you SPARKLERS out there who inspire me on a daily basis!

My Goals:
My overriding goal is balance. I want to be fit and full of vitality and yet find a way to achieve those goals in a patient and loving way without punishing myself. I am gaining insight into how my body works learning more about exercise and nutrition. I intend to continue on this journey
and lovingly go from lumpy to luscious.

My Program:
I started with small changes. I have been one of those people who overwhelm themselves with change and cannot sustain it. So, I began with a commitment to drinking 8 glasses of water a day, 10 minutes of exercise and sharing my goals with someone daily.

For 2010 add:
1. walk 10,000 steps a day. - Need more consistency on this one.
2. Do some form of Cardio for 45 min. 6 days a week.
3. Do strength training 3x a week.
4. Learn to play the harmonica and ukulele for fun!
5. Work my way up to a full Push Up this year.

Personal Information:
I am fortunate enough to live where it is possible to exercise outdoors most of the year. I find spending time in nature and with animals to be very nourishing to my soul. They are GREAT teachers.

Other Information:
I love collecting inspiring quotations and I try to focus on one daily.

"When things go wrong, don't go with them."

"Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could..."
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Years wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul."
~Samuel Ullman

"I do not want the peace which passeth understanding, I want the understanding which bringeth peace."
~Helen Keller

“What a caterpillar calls the end of the world the master calls a butterfly.” ~ Richard Bach

“When thinking won’t cure fear, action will.” ~ William Clement Stone

"A man's errors are his portals of discovery."
~ James Joyce

Hey Tenacious One, you are 75thousand strong, see you someday at 100K!
Of course, you will arrive there before me, but I will catch up eventually.

Hiyo Silver! Thanks for the Lone Ranger mask.
Re:fitbits We have Ultras
Today I did 18 floors. That's not all stairs. When outdoors hiking, it accounts for walking uphill.

'Member when you gifted me with my first virtual pedometer eons ago? It motivated me then just like you knew it would. Well, I just bought a fun one for me & DH for our anniv. Fitbits. They are expensive, but cool. Check out Amazon.Worth it. He really likes using it. The other nite he was just shy of 15K steps, so we danced to go over. I consider that a successful motivational tool.
Happy Halloweek!
