07/06/2016 - I seem to take long hiatuses from SparkPeople, only to find myself back again to reignite. Here I am again, in this supportive community, looking to find a spark to help improve my overall health! Cheers to all, and let's do this thing!

06/07/2015 - I am back on Spark to try a different approach. I guess returning is not different, but the way I intend to live it is different. I read what I wrote below, I think it was April of 2014, and I realize that I still embrace that philosophy. My goal today is to realize I have the ability to make the changes! I can, and I will make the changes necessary to be the best me I can be!

April 2014 - Embrace the positive, ditch the negative. It's all in the attitude. The one thing in life we have the power to change is our attitude. I have a choice! Do I want to live my days with a bad attitude? Heck No! I want to live with joy in my heart - even when the situation is not particularly joyous.
The bad attitude that I allowed to take over my mind has interfered with my life on so many levels. Now I am thinking positively, and with that energy, I will be able to accomplish so much. Weight loss will be a part of those accomplishments, but more importantly, I will find peace within.

Eat mindfully - food will not fill any emotional void, but will overflow my jeans!
Move often - my body has gotten stiff with non-use. Give it time, be gentle, and soon you will see its strength.
Live with gratitude - I have been blessed with a beautiful family and great health. Sometimes these gifts go unnoticed and unappreciated, I must remember to give thanks often!

    Hey - yes - my weight Spark Journey began a few weeks before I got the Diabetic news. The Dr agreed to let me just go on meds for 6 months to see if I could get the weight down enough to make a difference. I guess because we know my Blood Sugar Count was okay 18 months prior to this test. So yes, I have actually lost 30 pounds since the first of July. I'm eating under 1200 calories - no sugar or flour - not even sweeteners. I bike 12 miles before breakfast most mornings and walk 1-2 miles a day. Even started Zumba 2x a week before we went to NJ for 3 weeks. Hope to begin again on Monday. I am SO hoping to manage this with lower weight and diet but as I mentioned, next blood work in end of Oct and that will tell us more.

    I retired 2 years ago and we've moved to a 55 community - it is fabulous and makes fitness so very doable here and with a retired schedule. I'm even meeting a friend at the gym at 6am tomorrow to work on Strength. It's an interesting journey - just praying that it works, but at least the threat is there and hopefully will encourage me to continue a healthy lifestyle for the next 40? years :)

    I think planning in advanced what you will order is SMART!! Especially, when visiting a new restaurant. You can do it!! I like making a game out of see how smart I can outsmart the menu. You will feel fabulous too from them better choices both physically & mentally! Have a great time this weekend with your friends! Sounds fun!!
