My life goals are to have a healthy body, a sharp mind, & a happy heart; to leave the world a better place for my having been here.

I began this SparkPeople journey on 26 January 2009 to lose 25 pounds to get to a healthier weight. I have reached my goal weight, but that has become just a step along my new road as a clean eater and runner for life.

Phase 3 Goals (Completed):
1. Maintain goal weight of 130+/-5; reduce my body fat from 26% to 24%

Phase 2 Goals (Completed):
1. Maintain goal weight of 130+/-5, but change my body composition to 26% fat

2. Complete the 200 Squats challenge by 9/30/2009

3. Run/walk a 10K and/or Half Marathon by 12/31/2009.
***Goal met: 10/18/2009 (10K)

My Goals:
1. Read 80 books in 2013.

June 1 - Newport Marathon
Oct 6 - Wineglass Marathon

My Program:
1) Run 6 days a week - following a custom marathon training plan.
2) Eat clean.
3) Work with a personal trainer 2 days a week.

Personal Information:
I love cats and currently am owned by 4 of them. I also enjoy keeping fish. I have a 2400 gallon koi pond, a 125 gallon goldfish pond, and more aquariums than I am willing to identify, ranging in size from 2.5 gallons to 140 gallons. I love to garden, in particular to grow my own vegetables. Unfortunately, I no longer have a good space for this, but do have lots of herbs.

My husband and I celebrated our 38th anniversary in May, 2012.


Other Information:
I am a voracious reader. I love my Kindle.

I am passionate about opera and am an emeritus member of the Board of Trustees of the Austin Lyric Opera.

I also serve on the Boards of Austin Shakespeare (Treasurer) and the Austin Chamber Music Center (President). I am also the President-elect of the Austin branch of the English Speaking Union.

Hi Catherine, thanks for dropping by my "irony" blog. The mixed messages that get sent out are pretty incredible, and like you said, some of them are right here, too. Especially with the advertising (and a certain new book). I guess the way to go is to turn a blind eye towards it--not sure much else can be done--and keep onward (avoiding the supermarket checkout mags, heh). Have a super day! emoticon

Our puppy does have big mitts, it will be interesting to see how big she grows. Her mom was lab size, but she also had great dane in her, which may express itself more in Frida.

The first house we bought, while grad students had no A/C. We had a plant mister and sprayed each other th stay cooler. The wallpaper in our bedroom actually started peeling from the wall.
