My Goals:
1. Read 100 books in 2014.
Read so far: 80 books
2. Qualify for the Boston Marathon.
3. Run till I'm 100.

Upcoming Races:
Jul 27 - San Francisco Marathon

My Program:
1) Run 6 days a week - following a custom marathon training plan.
2) Eat clean.
3) Work with a personal trainer 2 days a week.

Personal Information:
I love cats and am owned by 6 of them. I also enjoy keeping fish. I have a 2400 gallon koi pond, a 125 gallon goldfish pond, and more aquariums than I am willing to admit to, ranging in size from 2.5 gallons to 140 gallons. I love to garden, in particular to grow my own vegetables. Unfortunately, I no longer have a good space for this, but do have lots of herbs.

I am now (happily) retired.

My husband and I will celebrate our 40th anniversary in May, 2014.

Other Information:
I am a voracious reader. I love my Kindle and the public library.

My field of study at university was English literature (I have an advanced degree in medieval English literature). My first career was teaching at university, but after a few years I went over "to the dark side" and spent most of my professional life at a large, multinational computer company, principally as a planner and project manager.

I am passionate about opera and an emeritus member of the Board of Trustees of the Austin Lyric Opera.

I also serve on the Boards of Austin Shakespeare (Vice President) and the Austin Chamber Music Center (President) as well as serving as the current President of the Austin branch of the English Speaking Union.

Thanks for stopping by my Galiano hike blog.
I love the hikes on Wednesdays with the hike group.
I am just amazed at how many different hikes there are not too far from home.

Thanks, Catherine, for you continued support. Yeah, the tri crowd is a bit more competitive than the running crowd, but I still enjoy doing the triathlons.

Catherine, I appreciate your accurate discussion about body fat. Building muscle would be another option for sure. However, I truly do not believe my body is capable of building as much muscle as you have. I could be wrong. Perhaps with a knowledgeable personal trainer (the two I have tried were not familiar with 65 year old women) it could happen, but I suspect injury is a much more likely outcome than building muscle. That has been my experience. I do appreciate your interest and information.

Edit addition: I am doing some strength training. In fact, today I'm very sore from yesterday's workout.

I visited San Francisco a couple years ago - it was gorgeous. Did you run it before? - I seem to remember seeing pictures. I can imagine it will be a lot cooler than your last race.

I am not currently signed up for any races. I am giving my knee a break. I laminated a marathon training plan I got from Running Magazine last month. It looks "do-able" for me. I was thinking of trying the plan, then signing up for something in the Fall. It is very hot and humid here. I don't like to run when it is too hot (I am so particular)!
