Going Forward and Not Looking Back...
I turned 40 in the middle of 2011. I spent a good portion of my life fighting my weight and fighting laziness. I want to spend the rest of my life being lighter, more active and less obsessed about how I look. So, I am changing my life. I turned 40 in the middle of 2011. I spent a good portion of my life fighting my weight and fighting laziness. I want to spend the rest of my life being lighter, more active and less obsessed about how I look. So, I am changing my life. I am setting small, monthly goals and checking in with a dear friend who will be my accountability partner. Consistency has always been a real problem for me. I tend to start out well, but then tell myself that I have done so well that I deserve a "cheat treat". This leads to binging. I love to exercise (most of the time), but when I binge, it takes my self-esteem to the toilet and I let it all go to hell for a few weeks, hence I rarely make much real progress. I have been a self-defeater and it is going to STOP. One thing I have managed to be fairly consistent about is training for half marathons - though there is usually enough time between them that I am starting from scratch when I start training for the next one. I want that to STOP. After giving up meat for Lent 2011, I realized how much better I felt. I went back to eating it, after Easter, but just didn't care for the way it tasted or the way my body felt. So, beginning on my birthday, I am giving myself a few weeks to wean off of coffee and meat and a lot of dairy. Then I am going to make the next step to cleaning up my life. I am feeling better as I move forward. I think this will be a great thing. Now, I am looking forward to 40, and beyond, with renewed vigor. Jan. 22, 2012 - update The fall was a bit crazy for me. I started a new job, dealt with a divorce in my immediate family and started working at our store most weekends to be "free help" during busy times. I got a bit off track and I reverted to some bad habits, even while I kept some good ones. At the first of the year, I took stock of where things were and it all seemed to really click. A now or never kind of moment. Most importantly, I finally started asking God for help instead of thinking that I could wrestle all of my demons on my own. Today, coffee no longer has a strangle hold on me. I can go days without it and when I do drink it, it's usually just one mug and it's decaf or half caf. I am meatless most days, too and have been doing fairly well this month at keeping my calories under control. I already have 1,000 fitness minutes for the month am nearly 12 pounds down from the first of the year and can tell a big difference in my stamina and how my body feels. Gotta keep it going and I am LOVING IT!
