It's Time for a New and Improved Healthy Me!

When I first joined SparkPeople I tried to start there but I find myself feeling a little discouraged by my lack of progress this year. I had really good progress for the first half of the year then not so much the last half. I realized it's time to rethink my approach.

First I'm updating this page. Then I'm correcting my start weight to reflect where I began when I started losing weight. I've been winding my way down to my current weight for about five years. Even with this years ...
When I first joined SparkPeople I tried to start there but I find myself feeling a little discouraged by my lack of progress this year. I had really good progress for the first half of the year then not so much the last half. I realized it's time to rethink my approach.

First I'm updating this page. Then I'm correcting my start weight to reflect where I began when I started losing weight. I've been winding my way down to my current weight for about five years. Even with this years 20 pound setback, I've come a long way.

The next step was to take a look at my daily approach to weight loss. I've been reading books. I've been talking to the doctor about my blood pressure and cholesterol. I've been asking, "what motivates me?" I realized that it doesn't much matter how motivated I am because I don't know what my specific goals are.

Today I'm setting them and announcing them!

This is what I want to do and how I'm gonna do it. It's very general to say I want to lose 135 pounds ... SO ... I'm listing some more specific things. If I do them, the 135 pounds will disappear. Let's not stop there. I'm getting a fat little piggy bank to collect pennies and nickles and I'm gonna reward myself every day for my successes!! Thank you SparkPeople.com Pennies for Pampering Team for the idea!!

My goals are:
1)Eat at least 5 servings of veggies per day.
2)Swim a mile or walk 3 miles 6 days a week.
3)Do strength training 3 times per week.
4)Lose 2 pounds per week.
5)Get cholesterol into acceptable ranges.
6)Get off blood pressure medicine.

I'll give myself a penny for each vegetable I eat.
I'll give myself a penny for each exercise I do.
I'll give myself 5 pennies for each pound loss.
I'll give myself a dollar for each type of cholesterol (try., total, LDL, HDL) within recommended measurements.

AND

When I get off the blood pressure medicine, . . . I'm havin' a party!!

My Goals:
I've lost 30 pounds.

I need to lose at least 100 more. I would like to lose a total of 130 more pounds.

I need to lower my bad cholesterol and raise my good cholesterol.

I need to lower my blood pressure.

I need to get in shape.

My Program:
I'm trying to follow the SparkPeople diet with a low sodium twist. Drinking water everyday is easy. Limiting salt and fat is hard.

Bottom line: I've lost 50 pounds by limiting portions. I watch what I eat to make sure that I'm getting the most nutrition out of it.

Personal Information:
My name is Laura Nolette (formerly Laura Newby.) I have lived in Central Florida for about 10 years and have loved every minute of it. I homeschool 3 of my 4 children. (The oldest graduated from homeschooling last year and is now a student at Stetson University.)

Other Information:
I volunteer as a church secretary and social planner. I play the electric bass on the worship team. If I ever find free time, I like to create beautiful things do decorate my home or give as gifts.
